I've played Prison Architect for about an hour now, and I'd like to share my list of bugs, story notes, feature requests, and comments. Forgive the loose formatting of these notes, as I jotted them down as I was playing and don't want to spend more time compiling them into proper bug reports:
Bugs:
* The (0) button in the top right of the guard dialog box needs to close the window. The "locate" button should be moved elsewhere
* WASD scrolling is too slow, and should perhaps be non-linear in acceleration
* The front door to Edward's house is a jail door. He also has industrial lights outside instead of home lighting...makes it really confusing whether we're initially seeing a jail or a house
* You can pay extra by running electrical cables over existing electrical cables, wasting money
* It's too easy to sack/dismantle/dump items with the menu. Dangerous menu items should be physically separated from safe ones, possibly with confirmation dialogs.
* You should be able to click on one capacitor and then another without having to click outside to close the box first. In general, it seems you have to close the information dialog box to view information about another item, rather than simply clicking the item and having the dialog box display info about the new item.
* The church also has jail cell doors, and barred windows instead of stained glass. Is it in a prison?
* I built a building that required an entrance, then decided I don't want the building, but I'm stuck with some ghostly thing saying "requires entrance" that I can't remove. So I HAVE to spend money on a door, only to remove it.
* Buildings that's only 2 walls wide/tall are bugged. Shouldn't be possible to build a building this small.
* You can't make electrical wire junctions in the middle of wires, which should be possible. Instead, it appears you have to make a bend to get a junction. (Actually it appears this is possible, but I still find it buggy or confusing.)
* The wiring layout is weird, when you designate wires in a column they show up as a bunch of horizontal sections that are planned.
* The flashing "No water!" indicator has a column of black pixels on the left
* Nothing to indicate a demolition job is pending on a wall
* I broke pathfinding by having one door be staff-only and the other door be set to admit no-one, and this resulted in a worker being unable to reach a wall. He just stood at the wrong door forever, rather than going to another building where the functioning door was located.
* Guards are lazy about transporting new prisoners into the prison, and I don't know how to force them. I think you left click a prisoner and then right click where you want them to be taken, but there is zero feedback to indicate that this worked, such as the green pathfinding indicator that you get when you tell guards to go somewhere. I think left clicking just deselects, but the sound makes it seem like it's accomplishing a task.
* Guards sometimes don't automatically stop escape attempts. (Perhaps they don't see it?)
* A prisoner was standing near a door and I set it to door nobody, and then immediately it triggered an escape attempt, and the guy was somehow on the other side of the door, even though it was closed and not damaged.
* Crash! Only error was a blank dialog box that says "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" in the title, and an error icon, with no text. Not sure how to reproduce this. Here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/4Eudu.jpg
Story notes:
* Change "Edward's wife Susan" to "Susan." It's clear through context that it's his wife
* Change "What are you going to do?" to "No, don't! Edward, please!"
* Change "We are almost done I think" to "We are almost done." The CEO would know.
* Would the priest really question the chief of security like that, right there in front of all the other prisoners, and next to the man to be executed?
* "He'd be looking at life in prison instead." "Do you want a guy like this running free?" But he wouldn't be running free. He'd be in prison.
* Do priests really spend their free time looking at Jesus? I feel like that's what you'd expect a priest to do in a children's book. They'd probably be like any other professional...sitting at a desk.
* "You have to turn yourself in. Whatever you've done, you cannot evade the consequences." The priest doesn't even know it was illegal at this point, so telling him to turn himself in is premature. Furthermore, that scene didn't add anything to the story. We already imagined that it happened like that. If anything, Edward's confession to the priest should reveal mitigating circumstances that make the situation even MORE morally ambiguous.
"It's not God's forgiveness I'm worried about, it's my daughter's. If I turn myself in and get the death sentence, I'll never be able to explain my side of the story to her."
"You have been like a son to me, Edward, but you have no choice. I will speak to her when the time is right."
Then this flashback could resolve some cryptic comment that Edward said to the priest, creating a much more satisfying story arc.
"Oh! When Edward said, 'Please, help her understand,' when being led out of his cell he was referring to his daughter! I get it now."
* I think we should see the execution. After all, WE are the ones that are faced with the harsh reality of this job. The screen shouldn't go to white for us, only for Edward.
Feature requests:
* A roster of prisoners, so I can single one guy out for random searches, etc., and keep messing with him, Dwarf Fortress style. (You come to know and care about your Dwarfs.)
* Mouse scrolling by moving to the edges of the window
* Faster time compression!
* Going to the slowest time should also make the sound effects less intense. I would use this mode when I wanted to switch windows, but I'd still hear my pissed-off prisoners complaining about a lack of food and the fact that the toilets didn't work.
Comments:
* I switched on the electric chair as part of the test, but nothing appeared to happen (after installing the capacitors). I was expecting more!
* Can't check items off on the todo list. Instead, you can only remove them. Then it's just a 'list' not a 'todo list.' I'd like to mark an item as done but still be able to refer to it (such as the CEOs advice at the beginning of a new prison)
* Need more door types!
* It's super hard to build buildings and then decide you want them different shapes. I want to layout a floor plan interactively, then click *go*, but instead I'll make a rectangle for a building, then be stuck with the design, and have to spend more money demolishing walls and adding them back manually, and then trying to find a good floor to put between them. I also have to wait for buildings to be built or destroyed to modify my plan, rather than simply having a designation mode where I can see what my plan is, regardless of what's currently there. DwarfFotress gets this right
* Super hard to make money so far. My place is a shithole! But that's okay, maybe I don't know how to play yet.
1hr feedback: 35 bugs, feature requests, comments, etc.
