Question on gang leaders

I've loaded up a prison created in alpha 34 that has gangs enabled with several pre-existing gang members in it, I have two legendary gang members who I would expect to become leaders, however no leaders are appearing and therefore the gangs aren't doing anything. Are gang leaders established once in your prison or are they set leaders who arrive in through intake? and are there any suggestions to solve my absence of gang leaders? Thanks.

It's my understanding that gang leaders only arrive as new intake. Any current gang members from an alpha 34 prison will be set as only a soldier, the first rank of a gang. You could edit the save file to make one a leader I guess, if you know what the code is.

I was thinking of doing that seeing as my prison is overcrowded as it is, it would be useful knowing which command affects whether or not a prisoner is a gang leader.

I just did this earlier this morning (however I'm not at my game machine, so this is from memory) when I edited the file I looked for the word "gang" and found a place on each gang member where it lists their rank. Everyone in my prison had the rank of "soldier" so I just took a random one and changed it to "leader". That worked and when I loaded the game he was noted as a leader and acted in that capacity.

Think im gonna try this tonight, got an existing prison which ive copied and added in gangs however the intake of gang members is far too slow, let alone a leader turning up!

It also didnt help when 3 of my red gang decided to kick off together only to all be shot and killed :\

It should be noted that when I did this the red gang had only 3 members. I played for about an hour before work and by the time I left home the red gang had 21 members...
