Tips for someone who absolutely sucks, apparently.

Postby Norman250 » Mon Jun 10, 2013 6:00 am

So, first off, let me just say I was against the death sentence, UNTIL I PLAYED THIS GAME. Anyone want to share some enlightenment on how to better manage prisoners? I absolutely can NOT get them to stop being pissed off/fighting/destroying/rioting. No, seriously, it's awful. And the needs notification is absolutely no help. Most of them complain about not having enough sleep, but that's only because they break their beds EVERY DAY and I can't afford to keep repairing them. They complain about hygiene, but SYSTEMATICALLY destroy all 20 shower heads in the prison. (Plus, literally, EVERY shower time, someone gets shot or stabbed to death, it's ridiculous. I've never even seen my guards use a gun, but every new day Johnny X or Johnny Y has a brand new piece). Furthermore, is there just a way to outright KILL a prisoner who is too much trouble? I've had this one prisoner, who has literally never spent more than ten conscious seconds NOT beating the crap out of someone. He attacks a guard, gets beaten unconscious, gets sent to the solitary, gets sent to the infirmary, wakes up, beats the nurses until a guard comes in to beat him unconscious and the cycle starts again. Literally, this has never failed to happen once. Also, if anyone has any tips about getting a higher income/more moolah, I'd love to hear it, because I've never been able to create a rec-room, a workshop, or any of the non-essential room types ever because after I create all the essentials the grant money is almost all spent and then I have to spend what tiny, tiny positive income I earn fixing all the broken beds and toliets in the cells. There's a lot of them. Last question, does the continuous intake box even work? Wether or not I have it checked every morning 8 new prisoners show up. I mean, admittedly I've never had a game that lasted more than three days before all my prisoners riot and kill all the guards and I have too little (negative) cash to do anything about it, so I don't know if that ever changes. Thanks for the read, and hopefully you'll have some tips for me.

Tl;dr, I suck at this game and could use some tips on making prisoners less insane.

Tip 1: metal detectors, I used to place them at the canteen but I have since found placing them at the entrance to the cell block to be the best more efficient approach.

Tip 2: Do not crowd them, I've found the trouble in showers started when there is more than 15 of them there and have built accordingly.

My standard issue cell block is 12X36 (including walls of course if you place another next to it 11X36 or 12X35 will do) at one end move up 7 blocks and create a shower with a 4 block opening. you get about 12 cells and 2 solitary per cell block.

Laundry, dirty clothes makes the most fights, build it ASAP and turn off continuous flow of prisoners unless it is a fight you want

Tip 3: TURN OFF PRISONER DELIVERY UNTIL YOU ARE READY (there are to many things that piss off prisoners to build in 24 hours)

The first few days of a new prisoners is a breaking in period watch them, they will be the initial trouble makers

Tip 4: only have as many cells designated as you do prisoners (see tip 5)

Tip 5: Build your holding cell away from everyone else if a prisoner is complaining instead of sleeping remove the cell designation he will be moved to the holding cell and you can leave him there to have his rant until you feel like letting him out. If you let him bug the rest of the prisoners everyone gets pissed.

Tip 5 to the extreme: Once I caught some bastards murdering my janitor I built a new holding cell far away and surrounded by two concrete walls and a fence once they were placed there and everyone was out I locked all the doors leading there and I left them there for four days. Next time I looked in there all three were crippled bloody and the room was trashed. I however never had a problem with them again.

Tip 6: Telephones and a visitors room. Have them, phones >>> visitors room

Tip 7: Workshops = money. Start small but start at the beginning.

Tip 8: 6 hours sleep is more than enough

Tip 9: free time > yard time honestly don't bother with yard time unless it's needed for herding.

Experiment with planning eventually you'll get to the point where you can build everything you'll need with grants before you'll need more income.

When you start a new prison, you have the option to uncheck "continuous intake". If you have done that, you can open up your prisoner Report and click on all green tabs that say "Open" to no longer receive prisoners of that category. Close them all and no new prisoners will arrive until you open them again.

Not sure if you're on steam or not but if you are, there is now the workshop with lots of prisons to d/l.

You could probably get some good in-game tips but d/l & playing some of them :)

Norman,

To get a lot of money, you can try this...

http://forums.introversion.co.uk/prison ... .php?t=927

I hope that helps you become a millionaire, it worked for me. Be careful though, that you don't blow too much on a DAILY budget, as after building a Mega Prison of your dreams, you may have a LOT of money, but unable to spend any more on a daily basis.

You can turn off prisoner intake until you are ready to accept prisoners...once you have all the requirements and an exterior perimeter is secure. To prevent lots of fighting and riots, you can choose to only intake low-risk prisoners (click on reports - prisoners - and click on the bars stopping medium and high risk prisoners and only allow low risk ones. They still might fight and shank each other...you can hire a psychologist, and then when you click on a prisoner, his individual needs can be seen. You can also click on the "needs" report and it will tell you how many prisoners are unhappy about homesickness, the food etc.

Norman,

play Alpha 8 until you get into the swing of things then go to 9 for more difficulty and finally alpha 10.

Also, sometimes a prison(design) is beyond saving. Once a riot spiral starts it can be hard to stop. So I find that if I'm having a riot, and I can't fix it by giving prisons the next day off (i.e. no work, lots of freetime, extra long eat times, etc) to make sure everyone is having needs met. It gets tricky when you have a lineup for solitary bc then theyre another layer of needs backlog.

Anyway, sometimes you just have to learn from design flaws and start over again.
