New Player - How to start up?

Postby Exportforce » Sun Jun 02, 2013 6:43 pm

Hello,

I just played the tutorial mission which, sadly, only shows some later stuff but not a "How to start".
I found some objectives but none of them do really help a totally new player.
How big should an office be? How big the rest ? How should the first setup be placed, so extras like pipes and such won't instantly bankrupt me?

Questions over questions ^^
Would be nice to have some starter tips :)

Offices: take the minimum size, which is clearly in the game. As for the money, try the grants tab on the reports menu, it gives you quite enough money to get some to start (though you do need to build the workshop in order to make sure you don't go broke).

I don't like watching lots of vids. Especially for such minor stuff like:
"As a start put a 10x10 office there, a group cell of 10x10 there and that there"
just as a super simple start that I have a running small prison start ;)
Advanced stuff will come later, just wanting to have a half normal start.
About office size (which was one as example) was said as minimumsize 4x4 if I am not wrong, but that doesn't mean its the "best" size for a startup.

What I don't get are windows...
Are they properly places with the bars on the outer side or inner? Wouldn't they need to be on both sides? ??

Offices serve no purpose other than for your guys to wonder around in, so really do make them as small as possible, same goes for cells. However, your canteen, yard, workshop and laundry should be as large as possible, I think you need 12x12 for maximum size laundry and 16x16 for maximum size workshop.

Hmm I tried to setup my first prison...
But alone the holding cell... The warden puts the inmate in it and instantly the inmate runs out and away...

Warden? I hope he leaves such tasks to the guards...

Does your prison have a front door the prisoner can't open? Any prisoner that sees that there's nothing between him and freedom will try to escape. If there is nothing to stop him other than the holding cell door, he will see that your guard opens the door (to go through it) and there no longer is anything in the way of freedom, so he will make a run for it.

They already arrive at an open space, I wonder why they don't run from there already...
The holdingcell has a door, yes but that can't close so fast as he runs away and the (yes was no warden lol) guard just watches instead of shooting him dead for running away -.-

Because handcuffed prisoners are unable to move without help from a guard. Yeah...

I wasn't talking about the door of the holding cell, but yet another door. Don't make a holding cell in the middle of nowhere, but have the door lead to another room where there's a door to the outside. You could even just do with a fence with another door around the holding cell door.

The guard has no gun, so he has to chase the prisoner and catch him to prevent escape.

they don't run because they are in shackles :D

But seriously, you need a wall. a large jail door on your holding cell, and another large jail door in the wall. I personally like to have atleast 3 secure doors between prisoners and freedom, so they don't get any ideas.

My way to stop the prisoners from freedom is build a big fence around the prison.Don't make the fence too big as the workers won't finish in time, however don't make it too small as there won't be room for expanding.

2 squares from the edge is a good distance for a fence

Or you can just use the edge itself (or at least the last square you can build on). All border issues have been fixed in alpha 10.

They were getting stuck in the trees in A10 sometimes. Had to sack 2 workers who built themselves between 2 trees.

Try going on the steam workshop and subscribing to prisons that are already built as it will give you some ideas
