If a demo was released regardless of how you would react people would expect the full game, they'd be sorely dissapointed that a game in alpha has a demo in alpha and they'd call it a buggy peice of crap etc. It's easier to just go ahead and buy the game or wait until it releases where a demo will be made for it.
As has been noted already, the point of a demo is to give people a free taste of the game so that they will be convinced to buy it. A good demo should highlight the core mechanics and provide some limited entertainment value that will encourage someone to part with their hard earned money. Right now, the game is utterly incomplete. Much of the core gameplay does not yet exist, and it is buggy as all hell. If someone were to get a demo of the current version, it is very likely that they would quickly be turned off of the game, and never pay for it. Moreover, a demo now is not likely to represent an accurate gameplay experience, as the game is constantly changing. First, develop the game. Then develop the demo. If you lack the patience to wait for the game to be released, buy alpha access. If you can't afford it, learn patience.

To extend the food analogy: a small taste is good, but it has to be a taste of the right thing. A burger joint does not get customers by offering free samples consisting of raw meat, unchopped potatoes, and spoiled milk. First they chop the 'taters, cook the burgers and fries, and get rid of the old milk. Then they offer a bite to potential customers. You don't win converts by giving them unprepared products.

thiere is no reason to let them use a unfinished alpha, because the bugs drive people away! They should, if anything, make the introduction a free demo. Basically gives you a small taste.

For future reference, make sure to include every level of quote within your post - otherwise it looks like you're trying to say Xander said all of that post, where in fact he disagreed with the first sentence, which was a quote from someone else. That could be very confusing, or misleading, or just generally odd.
He just copy-pasted the post and surrounded it with [quote]s.koshensky wrote:111none wrote:thiere is no reason to let them use a unfinished alpha, because the bugs drive people away! They should, if anything, make the introduction a free demo. Basically gives you a small taste.
