You will have to properly unpack the Zip file to a place of your choosing ... right now you seem to be trying to start the game directly from your WinRAR or whatever tool you use for compressed files.

Tried that. Everytime i put the actul Prison Arithect peice in it disapers after 5 seconds. Or if it manages to load the game i click on somthing and it crashs again :/

Ok finaly i have found out what the problem is. This file contains a Virus for eveyone who as downloaded it. So my Anti Virus "Webroot" as provided to me by Windos when i bought my computer automaticly shuts Prison Architect down.

That's because the game isn't properly signed, I believe - so when the game creates it's configuration file, the antivirus picks it up as an unknown program trying to make a file and throws up an error. Once it's done it the first time, you won't get the problem again.

I'm getting the exact same virus warning with Alpha 3. Alphas 1 and 2 are fine. Alpha 3 is reading as w32.infostealer.gen, so it stays uninstalled until someone can prove to me that the wiki was not hacked and the game .exe replaced.

Matty6000 and Chopchurch, can you post your exact anti-virus software and version? Is that version the latest?

I've just re-downloaded alpha3 from the wiki and 'prison architect.exe' have the same md5 sum than the version I download on November 1st.

Code: Select all

$ md5sum prison\ architect.exe
2e870e737a867b8f9c0091c17d4b2cb0 *prison architect.exe

Here I have NOD32 Antivirus 5 version 5.2.9.1 and COMODO Firewall 5.10.228257.2253.

Avast has no complains about virus. And Spybot can't find anything either. Think you just have a false positive.

I also getting that reading from Webroot, I have a paid subscription. I have several anti-malware programs running but it is the only one that reacted. If the md5sum is the same then it has to be a false positive from Webroot.

AVG flagged it as something in Alpha1. However, I don't recall what, AVG's event history isn't sufficiently detailed and I can't reproduce it by just erasing the folder it left in AppData and removing the game from the Allowed List.

it's not a virus. My virus guard (sophos) thinks the .exe is a virus too but it's just the usual virus guard panic they all do over something it's unsure about. just authorize it and it'll run up fine.

plus the game doesn't really "install". Once you unzip it, that's it done.

You can leave it uninstalled, it won't affect the rest of us ;-). Virus guards do it all the time, thats why each company has "false positive" submission pages. I suggest you submit the exe to your virus guards webpage as a false positive. they'll check it, confirm you're worrying over nothing and it'll be part of their next definitions update

all fairly standard stuff.

p.s. if Windows ever tells you a program has performed an illegal operation.... it doesn't mean you should notify the police ;-)

I'm sorry "tertaim", jackass says what? The fact that I have access to the wiki at all means I have a verified key. Were you unaware of this fact when you posted your stupid little scribble, or were you being deliberately obtuse?

Thanks to everyone else who had constructive and helpful comments.

Maybe it's because the .exe is UPX packed that some anti-virus flag it.

Really, I don't see the point of packing the .exe to save about 2 Mb when the resources files are taking about 80 Mb. Once zipped, the difference is about 200 Kb.

If you feel like it, you may unpack it and see if it makes a difference:

Code: Select all

>upx.exe -d "prison architect.exe"
                       Ultimate Packer for eXecutables
                          Copyright (C) 1996 - 2011
UPX 3.08w       Markus Oberhumer, Laszlo Molnar & John Reiser   Dec 12th 2011

        File size         Ratio      Format      Name
   --------------------   ------   -----------   -----------
   3069440 <-   1072640   34.95%    win32/pe     prison architect.exe

Unpacked 1 file.

so it stays uninstalled until someone can prove to me that the wiki was not hacked and the game .exe replaced.

This is exactly why I stay in my house. I long ago decided not to leave my house until someone can prove to me the air outside is breathable.

Here's an idea. How about you prove to us that a virus on your computer hasn't infected the executable after it was downloaded from the wiki?

Check the md5sum of the download - make sure it matches the one listed above. If it does then it's a false-positive, or it was infected after the download.

If it doesn't match, lock the front door and give me a call.
