I just recently downloaded Prison Architect, and I see that the save folder is on the C: hard drive. I have a SSD as the C (obv. for performance), and I would like to move the save folder to my "space" hard drive. I extracted the game into the D: HDD, I just would like to move the save folder there as well.
Does anyone know how to make this work? I'm assuming the game needs to look at a certain path, so I'm hoping there's a way around that that someone knows about.
Change Save Folder Location?

Re: Change Save Folder Location?
I don't know how to do that, but it should be great to know. And after several years, the path is still impossible to change in options menu. My windows just crashed and I had to restore a drive image. Obviously I forgot to check if some games had save directory on c:
My Prison architect saves are gone...
Never mind, but I would like to avoid this in the future. So if there is a way to change the destination, I am interested too.
Thanks.

It's not something that can be changed at the moment.

It's a shame, but ok.
Thank you for your answer blipadouzi.

Re: Change Save Folder Location?
We already had this topic once and I heartily agree that the savegame folder should be made selectable in the finished game. However, last time this post helped me out a great deal. Maybe you should give that a try as well.

Why would you want to do that? MANY games don`t allow you to do that so what the big deal?

There are many reasons to want game data in a place other than the default, which range from managing backups to portability to oddly restricted write permissions. The fact that you don't see a reason for it is only a reflection of your own lack of vision. As to the fact that other games do it wrong: what is the relevance?

1. Managing backups - I recommend you backup your user profile which is where ALL user data is held, including items on your desktop, documents and settings for applications.
2. Restricted write permissions in your user data folder would be extremely oddly restricted. A lot of applications would fail in that scenario and since it's a user's personal area, there's no reason to lock it down.

Overreaction much?
If you're that obsessed with moving the folder and you're so sophisticated with such vision (presumably because you have a highly technical background), why not use something like Junction https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb545046 to create a symbolic link to where you want it? Then you can fix all the other "wrong" games which store users' data in their profile folders.
Don't forget to back it up though.

Re: Change Save Folder Location?
Sorry to drag up an old post, but I came here to ask for precisely the same thing.
I have a home PC and a work PC with PA installed on steam, and would love to save my prison to my dropbox/Google drive folder, so I could keep plugging away in my lunch break, and then sync with the home computer
Much needed feature!

Re: Change Save Folder Location?
I agree, I want my save folder in my Onedrive like my other games so I can play on home or work pc.
I didn't have a game in the last 10 years where you can't change the save location
