Pah! Clearly bananas made of precious metals are the global standard.

This man here is Mr. Normal. This is my golden bannana. Lets put the two together. *bashes him the the bannana*
Note how the blood splatters everywhere. Clearly the two are not compatable. Nonethless, we will continue, because his brains taste minty.

Just a note to put this whole argument in perspective - you guys have spent my daughter's whole post-natal life arguing over how to rate these mods.

That said, why not simply a double-triple-tiered system just to quickly inform people if there's polish and depth in said mod? Each mod gets a rating out of three in two categories.

Technical merit (polish):

- Shiny
- Not so shiny
- Friggin' broken

Artistic merit (depth of story/gameplay):

- Meaty
- Not so meaty
- Friggin' boring

Ok, going for the big combination, have Trickfreds combination scores, with a numeric score, and a banana?

*ducks*

I think hitm4n should just take command and TELL us what he's says he's doing, then we all have to do that!

i tried to make it clear without dictating, that i would only add a single column and that an average percentage from any number of guys (5 was my hoped minimum) could be worked out. Each rater could rate exactly how they wanted to and i would equate it to a score.

however, i just can't be bothered

Lazy. Turn the code over to someone industrious. Let them do it. Like.. umm... hmmm... *tosses sack of work at Xander*

You seem like an innocent bystander!

1) Don't you fucking dare call hitm4n lazy. He has donated a great deal of time to keeping the modlist current. He should be praised for his hard work, and treated well.
2) The mod list is, as TGF said, just that. A list. hitm4n links to threads that discuss the mods. If you want to know what people think about it, there is a good place to start. hitm4n set out to simply list the mods, so that people could get them. No ratings. Nothing. Icepick's site was more about descriptions and ratings, though it seems to have fallen into disrepair. It would be nice if someone would pick up that torch, but is sure as hell won't be me.

first off I've got to say, hitm4n is in no way lazy; not wanting to take on *extra* *voluntary* work is not lazy!

and I could be willing to make a single place dedicated to mod ratings, maybe like a front page of listed mods with just star ratings (and perhaps bananas :) ), then links to a page for each mod with comments from users, and maybe some reviews by me and other people. And of course links to the individual mod threads.

However several things:
-> I don't have colossal amounts of spare time to play every mod. I would need other people to rate and review mods for me.
-> would people support this kind of site or just use the modlist still?
-> Would you (hitm4n) mind if I basically built a direct competitor to the modlist while still linking to your download files? (googlepages doesn't offer a large enough storage for lots of mods)

ok, first of all, this is VERY rough, it was made in about an hour and a half of just downloading and eyeballing mod files.

Anyway, here's version 0.5 of AN ASS LOAD OF NUMBERS:

And, if this'll look as untinelligable as I think it will, this link

Code: Select all

Polish (bananas)
3 = Shiny   (gold banana)
2 = not so shiny (silver banana)
1 = Mediocre but functional
0 = Broken (full content unplayable without manual editing) (Club of Dismay)

Artistic merit (haaams)
3 = Meaty
2 = Fairly meaty
1 = Mediocre
0 = Mind Numbing/No obvious plot - no readme or anything like that. Will make you quit.

plays like
0 = Single level
1 = Campaign
2 = Sandbox   (basically all levels available etc)
3 = RollingDemo

Version
1.0 - made to work with original Darwinia (no strings_default etc)
1.2 - made to work with features of 1.2 patch - strings_default and such
1.3 - made to work with features of 1.3 patch - eg rockets and new interface support etc, running programs where appropriate
1.41 didn't add any new features so isn't used
1.5 - made to work with features of 1.5 patch (new buildings etc)

Campaign Length in PLAYABLE levels (not debug or cutscene of padding)
S = 1-4 evels
M = 5-9 levels
L = 10+ levels

Enemy Within Pt3      3   3   1   v1.3   L
Insurrection      3   3   1   v1.3   L

As I say, these are rough, so any comments please feel free to put them forwards. I'd at least split the mods into 4 sections, single levels, campaigns, sandboxes and rollingdemos. Then you could just rate them individually as what they are (maybe just add up po, art, and length for campaigns, and just pol and art for others)

I'd also penalise out of date mods but that's just me!

That's good, but that's a tad hard to follow. I would suggest abbreviations:

Code: Select all

SL = Single Level
CM = Campaign
SB = Sandbox
RD = Rolling Demo

. . . or something of that likeness.
