Can I get Foolproof Instructions on how to make a fence?
Ok I've read the ultimate Modding guide by Icepick
I've read how to make a simple level by The Goldfish
I created my first level (which I think looks really cool by the way, you may eventually have the opportunity to disagree).
In my first level I had a bunch of Laser Fences, well one long fence actually. I followed the instructions, linked them in order and set them all to enabled. but they seem to be hit and miss.
Once, whil;e testing out the level I had an incubator set up and an engineer walked (hovered) right through it on it's way back, didn't get fried... Ok not working right gonna have to check that I thought to myself. but then the engineer went through the next section of fence and got properly de-rezzed. I belive my response was WTF!!!!!!
I checked the. fences, all are set up the right way; Linked in order and set to enabled.
So why does one section of fence fry when the next one over does not? and I'm not sure but I don't think it's the same section all the time.
Somebody Help Please

For Laser fences you place the poles, they get linked, you must have them "engeged" see the drop down list for each pole in the editor. If you have set it up right, the laser fence will be running inside the editor, you don't have to move to game mode to see it working. You can also choose which color the fence will have. Make sure you set the poles for Global too.
Walls are different. You mold the round corners together to make like one section. Mold more sections round corners together to make longer walls.

they appear to work in both game mode and Editor mode but in game mode they don't always fry things

You say above that the fence is not frying engineers -- what team are the engineers on? I have noticed that fences only seem to fry things on teams 0 or 2 -- virii and spiders and other nasties seem to be immune.

well team 2 of course, my team otherwise I couldn't send them through the fence could I? the fences are also on team 2
is there any way to make sure they fry everything? it seems like such a glitch that virii and others on team 1 don't get toasted......
EDIT: err make that the Yellow team, Team 3

When I looked at this before, red darwinians wouldnt go through a green fence ( when following an AI target ), and green darwinians wouldnt go through a red fence. When you forced green darwinians through a green fence, some of them get through and some of them are vaporised. Similarly sometimes green engineers get though a green fence and sometimes they dont. So fences do work and you can use them in your mods, but you have to understand the rules and design your level around them.

Not sure, I have a test island that I am going to make one each of the laser fences both with and without an AI unit. Then run everything through them
On my Nucleus map {the old one about to be replaced} I had a laser fence. It was green and the red guys walked right through, I lost three engineers though...however I did not have an AI unit on that map. That may have something to do with it. I also changed it to yellow team 2 once so I need to go back and test the lot and take better notes. I will test them this evening.

Team 0 is the green team. Team 2 is the 'player' team ( yellow) which you can control ( for certain units ). Team 0 and team 2 are on the same side and dont attack each other. They are kind of the same thing. Team 1, the reds, attack team 0 and team 2. and v.v. The neutral team is team -1 ( more correctly team 255 ). I never could figure out the rules for team 3.
Once the dev CD comes out, it should be pretty straightforward to get the game to display teams grater than 2.

just made a Test Island myself and it turns out NO ENEMIES DIE!!!
In fact when I ran squaddies and Engineers through them only the neutral (Team -1) fence fried them, the others did nothing. and I ran an armour unit through all of them without so much as losing a pixel!
so I tried setting all posts to "Enabling" virus forces still ignored them. but when you enter the level you can catch a glimpse of them rising up. all fences seem to fry my squaddies on that setting though
I even caught one of the soul destroyers flying through one of the posts!
The Centipede died off but I don't think it was the Fence, not unless the only work about 1 in 10 times

Hrm btw I decided to look at containment to see if there was something there that might give me the clue and it turns out that the LAser Fences in there are not linked in building ID order, so I don't think that is a consideration after all either that or something really screwy is going on here.......
