I received your files and it ran fine on Win 1.4.3 version. I reset the level, skipped through the intros, and sent it back to you. You're at the trunk port with those control towers you'd activated still online.
Conclusion - It's a Steam problem or a 1.5.x version problem or a combination of the two. My thinking is that it is Steam, as I said previously.
Shwart - Thanks for the info. Is your 1.5.10 running under Steam or not?
Cheers!

Its not under Steam.
Unrelated: I attempted to complete the level, and cleared everything but the left port island with all the reds, and was spawning some squads to cclear up the mess. The game crashed with no blackbox. Nonreplicable error. Given the strange nature of Darwinia as a whole, I'm going to put it down to a random crash.

Okay thanks so very much for your time and effort. Hopefully this shall work.
[Update] I replaced the files with the ones sent and I was still getting the same problem. After double checking that they actually had been replaced I decided since the reset version wasn't working I'd try deleting the secondary_core file in the profile. I started it up again and It worked, starting secondary_core from the beginning,I can't believe I didn't try that earlier, whether that would of worked or not without the new game text file I don't know but thanks again for all the help.

crash because of missing file
hello there. i'm quite sure this hasn't been brought up yet. i got the following problem:
using darwinia 1.4.2 on OSX 10.5.4 on ppc G4:
loading the insurrection mod will instantly lead to a crash with the following error message:
so far i've never had problems with Darwinia. i also tried out the mod 'Hacked'. Before trying to load Insurrection I unloaded the mod and created a new profile. also, i've tried it with several versions of insurrection, all leading to the same result:
1.1.2, 1.1.6, 1.1.7
anyway, i couldn't even find a folder data/shapes when looking at the darwinia program package, as well as the preference folder in application support.
i also redownloaded and reinstalled darwinia, without deleting the application-support- folder first tough. hope there is some solution.
greetings.
dover.

I dunno about OSX, and I'm surprised xander hasn't replied yet -- he's around usually.
First off, the /data/shapes path is a red herring. The original game shapes are stored *inside* the main.dat file which is a RAR archive in disguise. That path is inside the archive. The shape it's looking for won't be there because it is special to Insurrection.
The shapes for Insurrection will be stored inside /mods/Insurrection/shapes or whatever the path to the mod happens to be under OSX. Where did you place the mod files? It sounds like you may not have unpacked the full mod. There is a nasty problem which can cause this...
Try using a *different* program to unpack the mod files. Some versions of desktop file managers (under Linux and OSX) will see only part of the archive. Usually this means you have an older version of the file manager (or the utility it's using to see into the archive). When you unpack it successfully, you should find that /shapes/controltower_broken.shp resides somewhere under the Insurrection mod folder.
Search through this thread and forum -- this problem *has* come up many times before. But it's a confusing one, to be sure! xander has given suggestions for unarchiver programs before, but I can't remember what he said. PM (or whatever) him if you can't figure it out.

Except when he is a asleep. I tend not to be up at one in the morning. ;)
As to the problem at hand, check ~/Library/Application Support/Darwinia/full/mods/Insurrection/shapes/ , and make sure that there are files there, and that they are not corrupt. There should be a bunch of files with a .shp extension. Open one of them (i.e. controltower_broken.shp) with a text editor like SimpleText. They should be readable to the human eye (though somewhat cryptic). If you see a bunch of garbage and random chars, you have a problem.
Next, as briceman2 said, try using a different archive utility. I have been having some complaints about the OS X archive utility post 10.5.3, so I think that there may be some incompatibility between the program that I am using to create the archive, and the OS X unarchiving utility. You might try extracting it from the command line, or using Stuffit or something like that.
Finally, if all else fails, I have a tar.gz'd version up. It might work better.

hi xander & briceman
i'm sorry then, that this is already a known problem. i actually didn't come up with the idea, that it's my archiver - else i would have searched for that.
about my archiver: actually, with the standard system- archiver it couldn't even open it, so i used stuffIt with the rar- files. this worked out fine, except that i was left only with half of the file- tree
and didn't remark it.
so thanks alot mentioning that tar.gz, xander, this one worked well.
yesterday night i was too sleepy to play anymore and i only briefly watched the intro and looked into the first mission. it's no error, that this is actually mirroring the first mission from the main campaign, right? or should the first mission not be named 'Garden' and have the same dialog text and everything? if not, i'm in trouble again ^^. because the game menu clearly says, that the insurrection mod is loaded and also the ins.- intro appeared with bootloader = firsttime.
thank you guys and have a nice day.

ok it works now. yesterday night, with just one eye open, i tried to load your mod with one of the profiles i created before, when the data wasn't complete. now i made 'InsurrectionUser3' and it works
. nice storyline buildup i must say. i'm really looking forward to play this, thanks alot.
i have to say tough, that the mod loading is apparently quite tricky. could have been implemented a bit more user- friendly by IV, say, with user- data folder for each mod inside one user profile. like this it wouldn't be necessary to switch profiles all the time. but i really don't want to critisise IV too much, since overall this game is awesome. (my full opinion about it can be read in this thread. (if someone cares
)
anyway thanks again.

Dover, no need to apologize. Like I said, the archiver prob is not easy to figure out. You wouldn't even know what to search for. So no prob at all!
And Dr. Sepulveda LIED when he invited everyone to build the next game with the game editor. He never told you that the edit and mod system are still in ALPHA! I've always assumed IV was dead broke and had to ship Darwinia yesterday or they'd be eating two day old toast and processed American cheese (ewww!). Now that they are hotshots, future mod systems should be much more polished. Maybe they will even retro-fix the Darwinia system for a re-release someday. But for now it's buggy and crashes with the slightest provocation... The longer mods are miracles of endurance on the parts of their authors.
