I need some help

Postby Radiobuzz » Sun Aug 21, 2005 7:22 am

Hi there,

I want to start a little project about Darwinia. I want to make my own website with spanish translations about all the available mods and documents about modding on the net.

The thing is that, well, first of all, I need permision from the actual creators of the mods. But most important: I don't know how to design a website... I'm just a translator, dammit! *g*. I'm not looking for something even remotely as cool as the current mods' sites, just a simple design will work (unless somebody would like to make a really cool design, of course ;) ).

Anyway... if somebody wants to spend a little of his time with this, I'll be more than graceful.

Thanks in advance.

Use CMS like PHP-Nuke and try making some design tuning with Adobe Photoshop CS2/CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12. And sorry, I can't help.

Argh, I hate php nuke, it makes all the websites look alike... lol. Still, I will check it out and find out how flexible it can be. Thanks for the advice ;).

Actually, I would stay as far away from PHP-Nuke as possible. Trust me on that one...

My suggestion on web design is to look at the source of sites that you find interesting, and try to figure out how they are doing things. You can make a perfectly servicable website with nothing more than a little html. If that doesn't work for you, you can add style sheets or php or whatever, guides to which can easily be found by searching google. And remember, the point of a website is to communicate information to folk. Even if your site is a very simple html only affair, if it gets the point across, it is perfect.

DarwiniaWarfrontis a pretty simple layout, just files... and folders.

Um... DarwiniaWarfront is just a directory listing at the moment. There is no 'website' there, as such. I wouldn't suggest creating something like that.

Radiobuzz - Have you approached any of the current mod sites, asking if they want a translation service? I mean, they might not want to, but it would be easier for you to just translate a site, and have it availible from the same site, in the same format, just in a different language.
