The collaboration project, now with the working title "Project : Contagion" is under way. The plot ( complete with twists ) and levels are taking shape, and work has officially begun on the mod itself.

Its time to post a taster screenshot. This is an early version of the Dune-inspired Wyrm, a creature that will appear in the final mod, seen here idly chewing on some Darwinians. The virus is evolving faster , becoming meaner in our mod; creating monstrosities from everything in Dr Sepluvedas computer. You will have to play it to find out why.

As always, we need more people. If you have skills in max, lanscape modeller, photoshop, music composition, etc, then great. But even if you want to help out in any way, thats also great too. You can be a part of the best Darwinian mod so far.

Already looking promising, but Im just curious, how did you make that Wyrm model? Seems pretty complicated to be done just by hand-altering the model files.

After hunting about a bit, I decided the best way was to start with 3d max *.ASE format models ( you can get 3dmax on a 30 day free trial, by the way, so you dont need to loaded to do it) then convert them using a sed or perl script. All of the model information required is in the ASE files, which are just ascii files.

We are also planning on converting DEM files to map_ files in a similar fashion.

I`ve been trying to get my own models in darwinia and would would love that perl script to convert this to .shp format

I used Milkshape and exported as Milkshape 3d ASCII file. I then used 3d object converter to save it as a 3d max *.ase format.

Here is the recogniser.ase file which may be useful if someone wants to do a tron mod.

I assume that all these moddles will can be used on our own mods *looks hopefull*

Btw will you be upgradeing the darwinians/officers, with a stronger virus will a swarm be enough.

My idea is for a level 4 officer to take a spasific number of darwinians so you can split for forces.

My second idea is for an armory building, looks like a cargo crate with spider legs, deploys into a cargo crate. set it to a diffrent weapon and order darwinians in to change their wepons.

I have 3dMax and wings3d, if u need i´ll help, i dont have much imagination 8) , but i guess that if someone gives me a squetch i can do it in 3D.
Or even this smoked brain can sometimes amaze me :D

Thanks for replying. Those 3d skills would help us a lot. Im sure you also have a few worthwhile levels ideas too, so if you want to msg me, or post email address or send an email to dcollaboration@hotmail.com, you could be involved as much as you want.

Its a bit early for beta testing ;), but we need people who can just help out. The idea is that you only have to give as much time as you want. There will be a master todo list that you can check out on the web, and just pick something and start working on it. Its that simple! We will also have adhoc meetings on irc or MSN or whatever when needed.

Ill send out an email within the week to everyone who posts their email address or emails dcollaboration@hotmail.com. It will detail where we are with the project and where you can get the master todo list, tools, etc.

Anyone can use this for there own mods. You may have to mess with the orientation a bit, as it was lying on its back instead of standing up. This was how I saved it in Milkshape at first.

I changed the top of the shape file to this
up: 0.00 1.00 0.00
front: 0.00 1.00 0.00
pos: 0.000 20.000 0.000

The colour can be changed by altering the line
Colours: 1
0: 200 0 0
The 200 number is red, the next two zeros are for green and blue.
Use a paint program to find your colour codes.

I have the bikes and tanks as well but not finished, maybe the tanks could replace the battle cannons.
