"..."

Apparently you haven't even noticed that it was a TYPO.

a TEXT EDITOR

notice how close the letter 'r' and the letter 't' are on a keyboard?

Yes, we all just thought it so obvious we just didn't point it out :)
I guessed that was what xander was shouting about.

TinFoil: Let me start by saying, I love you. The ReXT editor, while not what I was talking about, is funny as hell. Google is funny.

Martin: Did you see this bit in my last post?

s/r/t

This is a basic string replacement. It says, replace every instance of 'r' with 't'. If you perform this replacement on 'rext', you are left with 'text'. It was a typo. Relax. It was a typo. I understand that it is hard for you to understand how someone as God-like as myself could make a mistake, but these things happen. Sorry for the confusion.

Ehehe... My unknowingness of non-map editor is as low as making text scripts and opening and decrpyting stuff in the .dat files w/ the txt decrypter.

It has been six short months since the plight of Darwinia, and the Darwinians memories of the Great Battle for the Biosphere are as vibrant as they have ever been.

Scattered throughout Darwinia are some of the brave, but nevertheless broken souls of those who fell to the Soul Destroyers. Darwinians who happen to past by these places slow down to observe, almost as if they can still hear the final cry of their fallen kinsmen.

Also broken is the motivation of the Darwinians' creator, Doctor Sepulveda. Even though not all of his research was destroyed, lost Darwinians mean lost research, research that he would never get back.

During the six months that had past, Doctor Sepulveda brought to his team an old friend from Graduate School; Doctor Koria, who received his PhD it the study of therory of evolution.

Upon joining the team, Doctor Koria found what he felt was a flaw in the method that Darwinians evolved: they only advanced by Anagenesis. There was no Cladogenesis.

At around the same time, the Darwinia Recovery team had found out why it was that the Darwinians felted by the Soul Destroyers could not be made right again, and they found that the damage might be fixable after all.

As it would happen, the structure of the Darwinian template was torn apart. In effect, it was basically the same effect as separating a lock from its key.

Additionally, what the Soul Destroyers left behind, they corrupted. However, they were all corrupted the same way; an XOR function to change the data in a pseudorandom way. Because the same XOR function was done to all Darwinians broken, it was not difficult to find a way to reverse this as well.

What became a concern to everyone, however, was the fact that they needed to change the template structure of these Darwinians in order for them to be complete again. Not wanting a revisit of the Biosphere, Doctor Sepulveda ordered an extensive study on the effects of the structure change.

Upon completion, it was found by using an old AI database that the two different structures not only co-existed together, but were sociable as well; they were curious of each other.

The only problem that seemed to arise with this configuration was the possibility of Darwinian souls corrupting each other in the Soul Repository, because they were not quite the same. This potential issue was quickly fixed so that the two types would end up being two entirely independent species within Darwinia. The Darwinite was born.

Doctor Sepulveda saved this to the Global Configuration, and then started a batch process. In less than 48 hours, all of his research would be would returned. Even better was the fact that it was more real: the branching of two species from one was the basis of Cladogenesis.

Almost immediately, it was evident that there was a problem. The newly formed Darwinites, unlike their test subjects, were not sociable in the least; they were running away from the Darwinians.

Fearing the worst, Doctor Sepulveda removed all possession of weapons from the Darwinian/Darwinite template. No lives were taken before this happened, and there was a tremendous pang of relief.

Wanting to know why the new Darwinites did not behave in the same fashion, Doctor Koria theorized that they were afraid of anything foreign to them - the last time they witnessed a form unlike their own, they were broken for months. The Darwinites were xenophobic.

This was a cause for alarm: while xenophobic species in real life also ran away from what was unfamiliar, eventually, they always would attempt to remove what made them feel threatened. It was only a matter of time before the Darwinites turned on the Darwinians.

There was little time to delay. Quickly, the development team began making tools to fight, should the worse happen. The Army Ant template was resurrected from an old archive made during the Infection, and was altered to be “tame” to the native Darwinians. Darwinians could be trained to ride these new Army Ants. With this, the Cavalry was born.

With the cavalry, development was also done using a modified AirStrike Behavior script. Instead of being called in for hit-and-run instructions, these new Saucers would be assigned to a location and hover there until a hostile force neared. If one did, it would then attack it.

The Temple was the first place to be over-run by the Darwinites. Almost immediately, they toppled the statues of Doctor Sepulveda, and erected their own statue, one of a giant Darwinite. No Darwinians were harmed; they immediately evacuated voluntarily. However, it was apparent that a second war was eminent.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Doctor Sepulveda decided to contact the only person he knew was capable of containing the situation...

Yes, yes, very nice - I'm just curious to know what it'll look like, there's got to be some cunning hackification to make it behave as suggested - I already have ideas on how you're doing it, I'm only curious to what it looks like (and plays) :P
