What format and where do I place new Artwork?

Postby Darwin00uk » Wed Mar 09, 2005 4:26 pm

Does any one know what format, as far as models are concerned, Darwinia uses i.e Max or Maya files
And how, when I have created new models, I get them into the game?

Models are in .shp format. I assume there is somekind of plugin to export them from maya/max. As for adding them to the game, you can use the StaticShape object, but you cant add any new units or functional buildings to the game as of yet.

Just look at the .shp file in notepad, the format will become obvious.

Yes, the format is simple enough, but that doesn't mean you'd want to be creating new models like that :P

Well, it's similar enough to md2 - as far as triangle strips, rectangles (md2 uses triangles - trivial to change rects into two triangles ), and storing each vertex and only using vector indexes for coordinates go - that it should be possible to convert between the two. (A single frame no texture md2 anyways).

I highly doubt that is how IV did it, so hopefully some tools will be forthcoming.
