Installation on Arch Linux with the files from Humble Bundle

Postby quantumcoffeemug » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:26 am

I just bought the Humble Introversion Bundle. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any installation instructions other than the rather sparse readme. Has anyone had success getting it working on Arch? I've found instructions elsewhere in the forums, but they all called for a shell script that isn't in the tarball you get from Humble Bundle. Sorry for likely asking stupid questions, but I'm really lost here.

You don't "install" that; you just untar it and run darwinia.bin.x86 right where you extracted it.

Heh, I feel like a noob. Sorry about that.

But when I try to run darwinia.bin.x86, I get the error

Code: Select all

Failed to execute child process "/home/[my username]/Games/Darwinia/darwinia.bin.x86" (No such file or directory).

Yeah, it's bizarre. Even when I run it in the terminal, that's all I get;

Code: Select all

[me@Gilgamesh Darwinia]$ ls
changes.txt       darwinian.png  lib          main.dat          sounds.dat
darwinia.bin.x86  language.dat   license.txt  readme-linux.txt
[me@Gilgamesh Darwinia]$ ./darwinia.bin.x86
bash: ./darwinia.bin.x86: No such file or directory

I checked the md5 digest, and it's fine. It seems like I'm missing something, but it can't quite tell me what.

Could this be a security measure of Arch Linux? Something to protect its users from running downloaded code willy-nilly? Maybe it only allows execution of programs on the PATH? I'm not really familiar enough with Arch to be of any real help now, sorry.

Can you try a "ls | cat -e"?
It will add a $ after each filename, maybe there is a space before or after darwinia.bin.x86.
