I'm clueless as to what's going wrong here.
If I try to load the SysMaintenance Mod Darwinia crashes back to the desktop. If I try to load the Insurrection Mod it acts like there is no Mod and just gives me the default 'garden'.
This happens no matter what order I take of loading the mod, restarting the game, putting the mod in manually in preferences, etc.
The funny thing is, it will load and run any mod/maps I make myself with no problem.
It would be really cool to get this working Introversion are my heros.
Edit:
Oh yeah, some more info pertinent...
Ubuntu Dapper LTS (happened with previous Breezy release as well though)
Nvidia FX 5200 with latest available linux driver
all game playing related libraries are up to date (NOT using the latest release of SDL that just came out a couple of weeks ago)
Running Gnome.
980MB of available System RAM
AMD Duron processor.
... and I can't really think of any other specs you'd need to know why this is happening. Normally when weird things happen I can find a good reason and fix it, but I am clueless in this situation.
Can't seem to get Mods to work

MaintenanceSyS' issue is a general one; it just always fails on Linux, apparently due to a missing shape. I think I reported it back in its original thread, but I can't be arsed to check back and see.
The "garden" issue suggests that you may be using an old profile; you need to create a new profile for each mod.

Don't think about The Game.
Interestingly enough, I am not finding a blackbox.txt or anything similar anywhere in
~/.darwinia
or in
~/Darwinia
Dave, I have tried all sorts of methodologies of creating a new profile. IE, loading the mod then creating a new profile and restarting.... or loading the mod, restarting, then creating a profile.... I've even tried doing it entirely through the preferences file in ~/.darwinia, and nothing made any type of difference. Like I said, any mod/maps that I make myself load up and play with no problem.

The blackbox would appear in $PWD, though I'd imagine it'd just complain about the missing shape file.
The mod issue seems strange; I've not played around with the system enough to work anything out.

With Insurrection, what does the directory structure look like? You should have something that looks a bit like this:
My guess is that you installed the mod one directory too deep, and that is causing issues. At any rate, the error you report is consistent with that diagnosis.

Code: Select all
mods/
|- Insurrection/
|- levels/
| |- [lots of mission files].txt
|- scripts/

|- game.txt
|- [lots more files and directories]

Is that the full output of ls? If it is, then you are missing a good number of files. I would suggest downloading the mod again (the most recent version is 1.1.6), and reinstalling it.

Where should I be downloading my mods from? The one that was missing files is from thenextgame ?
The one at yozh.org will be the most up-to-date. That is my own (paltry) presence on the internet. I upload new versions directly -- any other versions are mirrors of that one.
