Thanks John but I've overcome the problem by running Darwinia via Xgame as the problem seems to be caused by Compiz / GL issues in Dapper.

The last post is from May. What's the status and will we Linux gamers see a 1.42 patch anytime?

Thanks.

Mind, this is a wild guess, but I would assume that John is a bit busy with Defcon right now, and that the finished Linux patch will be out after Defcon. However, the beta seems to work.

Hehe.... Before or after the linux version of Defcon? :P

I guess since this beta patch works fine, I'd prefer the linux defcon before it, but y'know. In his own time.

I did have to do this to get Darwinia working again.

Are we GNU/Linux users ever going to get a non-beta 1.4.x? Or have you guys at IV just decided to skip that and give us 1.5 along with the Windows and Mac folks?

We Mac folks don't have 1.5, either.

Neither do Windows folks. The only people who do have 1.5 are those on Steam. I meant maybe they would release all three at once, or near at once.

Heh, that's not usually the way they do things at IV. ;)

Hi,

I'm a new member to the forums. I've had Darwinia for a good year now, but since my faster Windows machine had to give up it's HDD I've been trying to get Darwinia to run with little luck on my supercomputer class T60p. I'm running into problems running the new 1.40 Beta 9, I also have the debug file. I removed libgcc as per recomendations on the forum, also I put a soft link to libSDL into the lib directory, as the libSDL in there seems to cause problems. The program loads up, plays the first few notes of the opening theme (bootloader=firsttime) and quits.

Oddly enough, my signature isn't coming up, so I'll post the system specs manually.

Darwinia (SDL) don't like your sound settings?

Your sig is not showing up because sigs are disabled on the Darwinia, Defcon, and IV boards. Your sig will show up on the Uplink board, but your avatar will not.

Is the Linux Version dead? Or can we hope that there will be a new Version within the next ten years?

Anyway, I get this when try to install the patch:

Verifying archive integrity...Error in MD5 checksums: 941dc2dba0800cf866d8fc19f58eb4f3 is different from 9607eadc7dbdc70f1e040b8b411c6fc1

Whats wrong here?

the linux version is alive and well. It never made it to 1.42 because ... well probably because the linux darwinia community can be counted on hands and feet. But 1.40b9 has all the 1.42 features except for the difficulty system which lets you play speed darwinia.

I use 1.40b9 almost every week to tinker with a mod I'm maybe someday going to finish and post. Works perfectly fine for me. Sounds like you got a corrupt DL, or your distro's shell isn't compatible with the shar installer, but that's just a wild assed guess. ;)

P.S. if you fix the German language file, post it like you said, but also PM or email the IV staff -- 'cause I don't think they read the darwinia forums much anymore. But they are planning a re-release this fall, so I'm sure they'd be happy to update the file.

EDIT: THE CORRUPT FILES HAVE BEEN FIXED / RESTORED (July 14, 2008).

... I just downloaded again from the top of this thread and compared the file to the one I got a long time ago... and they are not the same file! I'm guessing one of the server crashes at IV corrupted the file.

from top of thread *today* :: md5sum darwinia-full-1.4.0b9.sh
17909dfb6bedcca0a207e34f8c267abe darwinia-full-1.4.0b9.sh
file size = 4211785 bytes; time stamp: Jul 13 2008 (today)

old version I dl'd from same link :: md5sum darwinia-full-1.4.0b9.sh
7528d6386ccc868e02471efd495ef0df darwinia-full-1.4.0b9.sh
file size = 4228121 bytes; time stamp: Feb 24 2007

I didn't bother trying to unshar the new file. I assume it is corrupted.

If you want, PM me your email and I will email you the file I have. Same filename.
