Darwinia preference file incorrectly named

Postby Cap'n Hector » Sun Oct 31, 2004 9:34 pm

As per Apple's developer docs Darwinia's plist is incorrectly named…it should be com.intoversion.darwinia.plist (or whatever the bundle identifier is).

Preference files are stored as XML property lists in Unicode UTF-8 format. The name of each file in Library/Preferences is comprised of the application’s bundle identifier followed by the .plist extension. For example, the bundle identifier for the TextEdit application is com.apple.TextEdit so its preferences file name is com.apple.TextEdit.plist.

Yeah, but I'm sure it's easier to keep it in sync with the Windows version until a final release is ready. It makes it easier to port new versions and whatnot.

No - not at all. The bundle identifier and info.plist are Mac OS X-only things. The identifier can be changed in XCode very easily.

BTW we are talking about the ~/library/Preferences/darwinia.plist file here - not the prefs file within the app bundle itself, aren't we?

Ideally eventually that file would migrate to the library as well. (keeping it in the app bundle would be a bad idea, since every user would share the same prefs.)

I assumed that were talking about the preferences.txt file. Sorry.
