Problems with the Windows version of Darwinia

preferences.txt

Where can I find preferences.txt at?
i'm new so I have no clue and since darwinia crashes when I select a area I need to know how to fix this, and yes its patched I just dont know where preferences.txt is.

Bump? After three hours? Have some patience.

It depends upon what OS you are running. Generally speaking, it should be in the same directory as the Darwinia executable, or in the same place that your profile is kept. If you can provide more information about what OS you are trying to run Darwinia under, we may be better able to help you.

uuh whats OS?

and the darwinia folder has these files in it
main
sound
patch
language
all ending in .dat

its windows vista and this is a store bought CD

The store bought CD comes with an older version of the game. Have you installed the latest patch? It can be found on IV's support page. As you are using Vista, you should be able to go ahead and download 1.5.11.

direct x 9 is installed but it still says I need it...
