Darwinia Causes BSOD

Postby 00Davo » Wed Oct 01, 2008 5:41 am

I've played the awesome Darwinia right through on my Linux box. Being nice, I bought a friend of mine the game. He's running Windows XP Pro (SP1) on his comp. I haven't actually seen the problem, but he informs me that he's gotten it to run once, played a little bit of Garden, and got bored. His installation of ZoneAlarm then spotted "like 200 viruses" in his Temp\Darwinia folder. Now he gets a BSOD every time he tries to play. I suggested to install the latest patch. Apparently, he's "tryed like 30 times". He can apparently only run it at all by running the darwinia.exe in the gamefiles folder on the disc, without copying the game to HDD. What on Earth is going on? Darwinia runs perfectly for me (although I do have the Linux version instead...)

Stupid Anti-virus corrupted the files or blocked the .exe?

He managed to install it onto an external hard drive, and now it runs fine.

Thanks for the help.
