Mouse extremely sluggish

Postby oxygen84 » Mon Nov 19, 2007 3:13 am

A few seconds after starting to play Darwinia the mouse became extremely sluggish, I could select units and move around, but not nearly as quickly or easily as normal.

Pressing TAB will sometimes solve the problem, but only for a few seconds.

I'm running Vista 32-bit, with 4GB RAM (3.5GB recognised), Intel Core 2 Duo, and a Geforce 8800GTS. I'm also running dual monitors and Synergy Network KVM, I've tried disabling both and it made no difference.

Darwinia was installed and running through Steam. The demo was absolutely fine (also installed through Steam).

I've also noticed a few graphics glitches: the sea turns from black to red randomly, and squads are blocky. These aren't nearly enough to stop me playing it though.

Thanks,
Ben

Which version exactly do you play?

Update video drivers?

I don't have Vista, but in XP from the task manager you can set processor affinity to 1 (ie: make the process use only 1 processor)? Does it change anything?

I'm using the steam version.

Video driver is the latest.

Setting processor affinity didn't work.

Thanks anyway though :)

Hmmm, the Demo use Opengl, and the latest version use Directx. This is most probably your problem. The strange thing is that most people have the inverted problem on Vista (Opengl don't work well).

From others post, it seems playing in windowed mode _solve_ the problem.

Please post back if you do find a definitive answer.

I assume you played the standalone demo as opposed to the demo included in the full version, which is DirectX. If so, I'll have to try the standalone demo on my PC because I've had similar problems with the latest patch on Vista.

EDIT: Is your framerate normal?

Windowed Mode is OK :D

It is exactly as described in the other thread.

The frame rate is either 60 is very close to it, not really an issue.
