Problems with mouse control

Postby IgD » Sun Aug 05, 2007 1:13 am

I just installed the latest Darwinia patch. My version is win-full 1.5.11. Many times if I try to spawn an engineer Darwinia will spawn a squad instead. Specifically, if I highlight and click on engineer in the menu it acts as if I selected a squad. After the squad spawns I can delete it and then it will let me spawn an enginner.

After playing for a couple hours yesterday the game got to the point where it refused to spawn anything. I could highlight and select a squad or engineer for example. When I clicked inside the circle nothing happened. I had to completely exit the game, restart and then it worked again.

Does anyone have any insight into these issues? They make gameplay very frustrating.

Sometimes the task manager is a bit slow to respond -- can you try bringing it up by hitting to [tab], then counting to 5 before clicking on anything? See if that works better? If that does help, I am going to go out on a limb, and suggest that your computer is not keeping up. However, as I have no idea of your system specs, it is a tender limb, at best. ;)

This is a known bug -- Darwinia will stop creating units after a while. There is probably some internal integer or something that is overflowing. No one really knows, except for maybe Chris. At any rate, quit Darwinia and restart it. You should be able to create units again.

I played some more today and wrestled with the same issue. I hit tab and then select engineer. I'm pretty sure I get video and audio confirmation that I selected engineer. Then the game gives me a squad. When this happens I try to hit tab and select engineer again but no matter what I do it keeps selecting squad. The only way I can recover from this is to spawn a squad, delete it and then re-select and engineer.

Does that make sense?

I see no indication that you did what I asked you to do. As I said, sometimes the task manager lags behind the mouse a bit. Open task manager, count to 5, then try it out. Also, you still haven't given me any system specs, so I don't know if the advice I am giving is even relevant, because I have no idea what your system is like. How fast is your processor? What video card are you using? What OS? How much memory do you have?

As to video and audio confirmation, what do you mean? The sound played for successfully unit creation is the same for all units, and I don't know what you mean by video confirmation. You need to be precise in telling us what is happening, or we can't help.

There was a Vista patch, that the Engineer button will never actually be selected without closing and re-opening the task manager.

Someone reported it in the beta, but I'm not sure if it was ever fixed. Lemme check.

Edit: Found it! Only beta testers can see(?).

I've got an AMD 64 2.40 ghz with 1.5 GB of ram. My video card is an nVidia 6800 GT.

The problem persists. I found I can work around the problem by using the function keys to spawn units. Is there a log or something that I could use to capture the issue?

Thanks!

You could use fraps. Try to spawn it slowly though. If it is indeed the same bug as mine, Engineer should not be selected no matter how long you mouse over the button.

Rabid, "If it is indeed the same bug as mine, Engineer should not be selected no matter how long you mouse over the button." That is exactly the glitch I was encountering and a much better description than what I provided.

Xander, this is a serious bug. Any idea how to reproduce or fix it?
