That's not right, is it?

Just re-installed Darwinia through Steam on to my Laptop, pretty sure it worked normally before the re-install. Can anyone tell me what is going on with this and how to fix it? Here is what is going on, this is the World map at start up, the Boot loaders work completely fine!

I'm running: Windows XP SP2
AMD Turion 2.0 Ghz
ATi Radeon Xpress 1100 (Latest drivers)
1 GB DDR2 RAM

Unfortunately, that's just a issue with the latest patch and Radeon Xpress cards. Follow the instructions xander gives here so that you can manually install a previous patch (as there's no way to prevent Steam updating...).

The Steam directory to which he refers should be at "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<username>\Darwina" or something along those lines.

Hrm... and you definitely got the 1.42 patch? Well, Filefront has a couple of earlier patches, which may or may not be more helpful... other than that there's not much else I can currently think of.

I have found out that when I apply the 1.4.2 patch, Darwinia still says it is running 1.5.0 or what ever the new one is. How come even though I have removed the newer files and replaced them with 1.4.2 files, the game still runs 1.5.X? Am I doing some thing wrong?

Don't apply the 1.4.2 patch to 1.5.x. Apply the 1.4.2 patch to an older version of the game.

From your Darwinia directory in your Steam directory, copy sounds.dat and main.dat to another directory. Apply the patch to that. I think that should work.
