Problem Running Darwinia on Boot Camp?

Postby moe11888 » Mon Sep 25, 2006 7:11 pm

Hi, I'm trying to play Darwinia on my Macbook. I am running Boot Camp and playing the steam version of the game. I can select the first level, Garden, but when I do, the game goes to a black screen with a windows error popup and crashes. Have people been able to play Darwinia on a Macbook, with Steam?

Honestly, it sounds like you are having trouble with the RenderLandscapeMode option. Open up preferences.txt and add RenderLandscapeMode = 1 (or 0) to it. Save the result and try again.

That actually worked. Thank you! Is there any specific reason that line of code was not in the file originally?

By default, Darwinia selects RenderLandscapeMode = 2, which uses one method of rendering polygons. This is the most compatible method, i.e. it works on the largest number of video cards. Of the other two options, one is what Darwinia originally used, and the other is faster on certain video cards. All three modes cause at least one type of video card to crash or underperform, so they are all available.
