Odd graphics glitch

Postby Khalath » Fri Sep 22, 2006 5:33 pm

Hello all... I hope you can help me here, I'm stumped as to what is causing this problem.

I reinstalled Darwinia to play through it again and try a few mods (completed it a couple of time when it first came out), but am now experiencing a graphics glitch on map 2 "Containment" that is detracting from the game a bit. The game doesn't crash at all, so there is no blackbox.txt to post, it just looks.... weird.

The laser fence posts are being rendered incorrectly, almost as if they are being "sketched in" each frame. Also their Y-coordinate screen size appears to vary depending on how you point the camera. Screenies to demonstrate:

If you need a clearer idea of the 'sketch' effect then I made a short FRAPS clip:
Glitch video clip (WMV format) (about 1MB... hopefully no fancy codecs needed)

My system is...

Windows XP Pro
Athlon 64 3500+
1024MB RAM
Geforce 6800GT
Realtek integrated sound

I've tried several different driver versions for my video card included the newest and some older ones (and made sure to clean out old files between each reinstall using Driver Cleaner). Since everything was the same I went back to my normal drivers, a tweaked version of 84.43. I've also tried adjusting the RenderLandscapeMode setting in preferences.txt but that had no effect. The bug appears to happen both in windowed and fullscreen mode, at all detail levels, and at all refresh rates... :(

Searched through the forum and couldn't find any problem similar to this. Am I missing something? Any suggestions very much appreciated. I want to enjoy this great game again before Defcon arrives!

EDIT: Forgot to mention I have the boxed retail v1.0 version, if that's important. Bug appears in both 1.42 patched and unpatched.
