fps of 2

Postby oneeyedfranc » Tue Aug 01, 2006 8:04 am

my game is down to 1-2 fps and upon entering the game the left column of icons magnifies until it completely clouds the screen and makes the column of icons unaccessible... :( anybody have a clue?

I suggest that you do two things:

1) Post more details about the problem (which level is giving you difficulty, which settings you are using, &c.).
2) Post the screenshot that you emailed me, because it might help someone else figure out what the problem is.

i would but i don't know how to post an image... and it's not just happening on a particular level or mod (i've switched profiles and mods but it doesn't seem to make any difference) and i've moved all the variables to their lowest possible settings and nothing seems to make any difference...

First step to posting an image, Get the Image:

1) Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard to capture what's being displayed.
2) Open your imaging/paint program. MS Paint will do.
3) Press ctrl + v to paste the image.
4) Press ctrl + s to save the image.
5) Give name, pick format, click OK

Second step to posting an image, Host the Image:

1) Find an image hosting site. You can use Imageshack or your own website if you wish.
2) If using Imageshack, the default settings should suffice. Just click Browse and select your image. Click OK when done.
3) Click "Host it!"
4) When the image has been uploaded you will be given a set of links. Copy the one listed as 'Direct link'
5) To display an image in your post you paste your link and write img and /img in square brackets on either side. Like this:

Code: Select all

Uplink help: Check out the Guide or FAQ.
Latest Uplink patch is v1.55.

If he's in-game, it would be far quicker to press 'p'. That would give him a screenshot in the directory that darwinia is in. After that he would have to make it a diffrent format (PNG or JPG), and then upload it to the free image hosts you've described.

Based on emails that you have sent me, I know this is not true -- you finished the initial campaign, and have played a few mods. If you had framerate problems like this from the very beginning, you would have said something sooner, I imagine. Now, you still haven't posted any details -- maybe you should post your preferences.txt file, and your hardware specs. That would help.

Also, read these:

EDIT: He knows how to make screenshots -- he emailed me one at some point last night.

See, that screenshot leads me to believe that it is EW3 that is the problem. That level has a metric fuck-ton of enemies in it, especially after a couple of minutes. My suggestion would be to finish the level faster, or reset the level every time you capture a control tower. You might also experiment with the RenderLandscapeMode = [0|1|2] in preferences.txt .

problem 1st occurred before i found the forums (or u xander) but disappeared of it's own accord. now it's back again... column of icons makes a flickering entrance and then expands until it clouds the entire screen and then disappears. process takes about 12-15 sec. screenshot is column approx midway thru it's expansion.

...And this happens right when you enter the level?

...Maybe try switching to gesture mode, and see if you have any difficulties of a similar nature? (No black circles in Gesture mode)

Ayuh, yassir, you betchya. ;D

(I think that's the nicest, most concise bit of praise I've heard for any of my mods. :D )

NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)

While it might have a fancy name & number, this card is basically shit. I would put money on it being the cause of the problem. I would suggest to see if you can obtain a better card and see if that has a bearing on the performance of Darwinia.

Did you upgrade video drivers lately? I had problems with Nividia's newest (not with Darwinia, but something else), so I've reverted back to 84.21.
