Cracked by DMA crew... wtf?

Postby solarnexus » Sat Jul 01, 2006 7:46 pm

Okay, is this some sort of weird private joke or has steam completely lossed all credibility? I notice darwinia has some cool random intro's, but this... this is too realistic.

not that I would know, *cough* :wink:

okay, I really should have waiting for the page to load... turns out theres another thread.

At least this time theres a picture :roll:

I wonder what the thinking was behind putting that intro into a game, then releasing it on steam... must've had the valve guys in stitches

Yeah, once they got the de-fibs to them and their hearts started beating again -- the initial Steam release was delayed by an hour or so because they came across this intro and thought something was wrong...

do the steam guys actually play through an entire game before its released?

it took quite a while before I actually got the 'cracked' bootloader

my favourite is the spectrum loading screen. makes my eyes go all moist.

if anyone knows how I can choose which startup screen I get to see, I'd like to know.

You can choose the bootloader by changing the "Bootloader" line in preferences.txt. There is a thread somewhere that lists them all, but I can't find it at the moment. Some of your options are:
gameoflife
gameoflife_glow
soul
raytrace
none
random

"BootLoader = random"

Change 'random' to the name of any of the bootloaders you'd like to see the next time the game launches. You can also change it to 'none' to disable seeing Boot Loaders on game launch.

* firsttime
o This is the Boot Loader displayed the first time the game is run.
* credits
o This displays the credits of the game.
* matrix
o Darwinians fall down the screen, and spell Darwinia, Matrix-style.
* soul
o Souls floating on the screen, accompanied by soft music.
* spectrum
o Mimics an old Spectrum computer game loading screen.
* fodder
o Displays a satirical 'endorsement' from Sensible Software, makers of Cannon Fodder
* raytrace
o Displays an interactive 3D environment that can be manipulated.
* gameoflife
o A version of John Conway's famous artificial life simulation.
* gameoflife_glow
o As above, but with more diffused lighting
* amiga [v1.2 and up]
o Displays a satirical 'game loader' like those used by Amiga software pirates years ago
* none
o No Boot Loader, just launch the game already!

*Note: If you have the North American boxed release, you'll also get a 'mini-bootloader' in the form of a Cinemaware Marquee logo display every time you start the game, even if you have bootloaders set to 'none' (since technically, it's not really a bootloader). To disable it, delete or rename cinemaware.avi in your Darwinia directory, and your game will bypass it.

*Useless trivia - cinemaware.avi is 116 MB in size. The game itself is about 30 MB in total. :?

You're most welcome, though except for the bit at the bottom, it was cut and paste.

I should probably cut and paste that bottom part back into darwikia.

*blows dust off of darwikia*
