Just to confirm, did you read these threads, and try some of the solutions posted therein?

Read me first before submitting a bug report!

Also, if you don't find a solution in those threads, then you'll need to provide either more detailed information, or a PCAnywhere password. ;D

...Actually, you don't really need more detailed info than is provided. Read it again, and follow the instructions carefully. They're pretty simple.

If changing that setting to one of the two alternate settings doesn't stop the crashing, then your problem lies elsewhere.

The solution is simple.

Open your preferences.txt file, and add this line:

RenderLandscapeMode = x

Values for x:

* 0 - uses Vertex Arrays. This was found to be slightly faster on some ATi hardware, and thus should be considered when testing out which setting to use
* 1 - uses Display Lists. This setting emulates the way Darwinia rendered in 1.0
* 2 - uses Vertex Buffer Objects. This is the default setting that Darwinia uses in v1.2 onward.

So, plug a 1, or a 0 into that line, and see if that helps. Simple.

Does it not matter where you put the new render-line?...... Oh! and i tried it again! i tested the mode where you form a gesture to start a program. Directly when i press the mouse to paint the gesture it stops and says... yeah you know! Maybe that piece of info can help you?!.

Well, sort of.

Code: Select all

BootLoader = none
Mod = EnemyWithinPart3
UserProfile = EnemyWithinPart3
RenderLandscapeDetail = 0

That's fine.

Code: Select all

BootLoader = none
Mod = EnemyWithinPart3
RenderLandscapeDetail = 0
UserProfile = EnemyWithinPart3

That's also fine.

Code: Select all

BootLoader = none
Mod = EnemyWithinPart3
UserProRenderLandscapeDetail = 0file = EnemyWithinPart3

That's not fine.

Code: Select all

RenderLanscapeMode

The other is used for dealing with the detail levels of the landscape. However, the RenderLandscapeMode setting is not your problem. If it was, you wouldn't even be able to start playing the levels. So, again, more details are needed:

What OS are you using?
What processor? how fast?
How much ram do you have?
What video card are you using?
Does Darwinia create a file called blackbox.txt? would you post it?
Are you running any other programs that might be doing something with mouse input?

My operative system is : Windows XP Home Edition
I think my processor is: Pentium 4 speed 2800Mhz
RAM : 512 MB
Video card. steam says this: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Blackbox file:none
will the game create a blackbox file if you bought it from Steam??

LOL i use the PC often but i dont know much :oops:

I don´t run any other program except Steam and my anti-virus program, Spyware Stormer but it is on sleep mode.

Could you post the exact text of the error messages that you get? Or screenshots of the error messages?
Does it crash in every level?
How reproducible is the crash? Can you tell us how to reproduce the crash consistently? (i.e. exactly what are you doing when Darwinia crashes? What level are you in? What are you looking at? Is Dr. Sepulveda saying anything? &c.)

It crashed the first time in the Containment level. And i am still on that level because of that.
If i try to use the gesture Task Manager When i paint a symbol to start a program it crashes.
Or when i take a Officer to a certain place that i have to do.
It says:
Darwinia has encountered a problem and must shut down.

Then you can choose to send a report or not.

If you try to create a gesture in Garden, do you get the same problem?

Can you play your other Steam games okay? I myself am having trouble with Steam crashing...that would be a Steam issue. The 5200 is an older card, I'm not sure about your cards ForceWare drivers.

*Note...SpyWare Stormer was reported by Windows Defender as malware/grayware. I dumped them a couple years ago.

Thought so. :D

Having an improper setting in RenderLandscapeMode doesn't necessarily mean the level won't start... sometimes it loads, but crashes very soon after.

Good to see you've got it working now.
