Bloody Error

Postby XLIV » Sun Jun 25, 2006 12:19 pm

This is my first post and would like to ask if someone could help me. I tried to run Darwinia yesterday and I haven't still done anything about it.
The error which I get when the game crashes is:
ERROR : 'Failed to open audio output device: "Specified device ID is out of range"'
I will be glad for any kind of help as far as I could play the game :) (Btw the demo which I downloaded after I bought the game does give me the same error...)

Thank You

Can you open blackbox.txt and paste it in your reply?

That normally indicates that another peice of software has control over the sound device and doesn't wish to share. When you next restart your computer, can you try run darwinia before you do anything else on the computer and see if you get te same error?

Sadly, nothing different happens when I restart the system and run Darwinia first. May be... could Avast antivirus have something in common with the problem? The first sound I hear when I turn on my PC is from Avast. Oh drat.

I use PcCillin and Windows Defender. I have to shut down the spyware scanning on both before I can play Half-Life2 or Dystopia. I am not sure about Avast, however they do have a Forum at Avast...you could ask your question about Avast and your sound card there. Why not just turn it off when playing games?

Uninstalled Avast!, Re-installed Darwinia and again the same error. I should get used of being unable to play the game may be. Please help.... :-(

Edit:

The first sound was from Skype... uninstalled it too. As we were expecting, nothing happened to improve my mood :(
