Audio crash with latest X-Fi drivers

Postby Varsity » Sat Apr 22, 2006 4:52 pm

Not really a support request as I've solved the problem myself, but for anyone who doesn't and whoever is responsible for fixing these things:

When using the latest Soundblaster X-Fi drivers from Creative (2.07.0004), Darwinia will crash as soon as it loads unless you disable Hardware Audio.

To disable Hardware Audio, find your preferences.txt file and search it for SoundHW3D. Replace the 1 next to it with a 0 and save the file.

Does this happen with the older drivers? Did you have SoundDSP on as well?

Thanks for the heads up :)

From my experience, no, earlier driver versions aren't affected. SoundDSP has no effect. :)

Thanks,

Have you, per chance, contacted Creative about this?

I didn't think their support crew were worth contacting?

The issue appears to be their drivers (common signs include working fine before the update). I contacted ATi when the 4.10 drivers didn't work with Darwinia, and it was fixed in 4.11 (which might be accidental or concidental, but it was fixed non the less).
