Crash on startup, but more than that...

For the entire game, I was running the CD version of Darwinia w/o any problems. I also installed the 1.3 patch, and there was no problem. Except right before I got to the temple level, something happened, Darwinia just stopped working. I got a "Darwinia.exe has encountered an error and needs to close" message. What I did was I saved the level files so I could resume my game from where I left off. Then I uninstalled the game, searched the registry and my computer and deleted all the the files with "Darwinia" in them, restarted, re-installed, restarted, patched, and restarted yet again, then it worked. Then it stopped working the next day, so I repeated the entire process again and it doesn't work. I don't have a blackbox.
