Weird "DMA Team" crack intro.

Postby BaconIsGood4You » Thu Dec 29, 2005 10:28 pm

I am utterly confused. I just bought Darwinia off of Steam and on my second time starting it there was this really weird intro. The first time everything looked correct, but this time it was a "DMA Team" intro saying they had just cracked the game and drank red bull etc.

What is this? How do I have this when I got the game off of Steam?!?

The solution is to stop being so gullible

The intro was made by IV and does not mean your copy of Darwinia has been cracked by DMA or anything -.-

Heh, found this on the news page:

There was a brief last minute problem when the Valve guys ran into the "Cracked by DMA Crew" bootloader and actually thought some hackers had compromised the build they were releasing. You just can't make this stuff up. Reminds me of the reports we used to get of games journalists unplugging their network connections because they were terrified Uplink (our first game) was actually accessing the Internet and connecting to Government systems

Darwinia has a series of intros called bootloaders, a reference to the loading screens of old microcomputers. They make reference to games, films and in this case, the cracked intro screens of games of ages gone by.

Don't copy... don't copy that floppy!

As someone old enough to remember the Sinclair ZX Spectrum when it came out, I particularly enjoy the spoof speccy boot loaders. A real trip down memory lane.

Now, if you guys can just avoid imploding like those scallys at Imagine... :-)
