I'm giving this topic a bit of a bump. I've a feeling that we can work out what is wrong in relation to non-supported code in Darwinia with ATI's IGP cards.

What I would like you to do is download and run this program. All it does is dump the information from your card into a file named 'ExtensionsSupport.txt'. After you've run that, please post it here inside [code] tags.

Hopefully we can work out whats up here.

I'd love to, but my Windows partition is buggered, and the only reason I don't delete it is because it has 30gb of music on it which I can still access, but have no way of backing up.

If only there was such thing as a Windows LiveCD...

Which OS are you running right now then?

I've been running Kubuntu for about 8 months now and lovin' it - www.kubuntu.org

Darksun: all very well, but note how the CD builder is also a Windows executable. So I need to find a prebuilt LiveCD in order to build my own... ;)

Just out of curiousity, how many people have tried submitting this directly to Introversion as a bug report? I mailed them twice about it myself, but I got no reply.

For what it's worth, I'm having what sound like exactly the same problems, using XP Home on a Pavilion ze4600. Device Manager says my graphics "card" (chip?) is a Radeon IGP 320M, but my output from the glGetStringDump program returns a "renderer" string significantly different from that of other posts here thus far. I have *not* yet tried installing the Catalyst drivers... I'm a little concerned 'cause I don't know quite what those ARE... Anyway, I reproduce my glGetStringDump output file, below, for the further enlightenment of us all:

Code: Select all

Failed to get address of glBindBufferARB function
Failed to find GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object support

Supported Extensions:
GL_ARB_multitexture GL_EXT_texture_env_add GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_array GL_S3_s3tc GL_ARB_occlusion_query GL_ARB_texture_border_clamp GL_ARB_texture_compression GL_ARB_texture_cube_map GL_ARB_texture_env_add GL_ARB_texture_env_combine GL_ARB_texture_env_crossbar GL_ARB_texture_env_dot3 GL_ARB_texture_mirrored_repeat GL_ARB_transpose_matrix GL_ARB_vertex_blend GL_ARB_window_pos GL_ATI_envmap_bumpmap GL_ATI_texture_env_combine3 GL_ATI_texture_mirror_once GL_ATI_vertex_streams GL_ATIX_texture_env_combine3 GL_ATIX_texture_env_route GL_EXT_abgr GL_EXT_bgra GL_EXT_clip_volume_hint GL_EXT_draw_range_elements GL_EXT_fog_coord GL_EXT_multi_draw_arrays GL_EXT_packed_pixels GL_EXT_point_parameters GL_EXT_rescale_normal GL_EXT_secondary_color GL_EXT_separate_specular_color GL_EXT_stencil_wrap GL_EXT_texgen_reflection GL_EXT_texture3D GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc GL_EXT_texture_cube_map GL_EXT_texture_edge_clamp GL_EXT_texture_env_combine GL_EXT_texture_env_dot3 GL_EXT_texture_filter_anisotropic GL_EXT_texture_lod_bias GL_EXT_texture_mirror_clamp GL_EXT_texture_object GL_EXT_texture_rectangle GL_EXT_vertex_array GL_HP_occlusion_test GL_NV_texgen_reflection GL_NV_blend_square GL_NV_occlusion_query GL_SGI_color_matrix GL_SGIS_texture_edge_clamp GL_SGIS_texture_border_clamp GL_SGIS_texture_lod GL_SGIS_generate_mipmap GL_SGIS_multitexture GL_SUN_multi_draw_arrays GL_WIN_swap_hint WGL_EXT_extensions_string WGL_EXT_swap_control

Few month ago I've installed darwinia whitout problem... for many reasons I've delete it () but now I've desire to use this fantastic game.... and now don't work:cry:

Same problem: black screen, little bit of music and after... crash!!!

I don't change hardware on my pc, only a new ram of 256mb.

I've tried to use the program posted by NeoThermic but not find a glut32.dll file.

Darwinia don't create a blackbox file, moreover I've try to launch the game without pach and whit pach, with the same results.

I'have win xp pro and ati radeon 7000.

Why before yes and now the game don' t work??
Can you help me??

For what it is worth, the Glut32.dll file can be found here:
http://www.neothermic.com/darwinia/OpenGL/glut32.dll

As for why it won't work now, I'm beginning to suspect that ATi has changed something in their drivers. I can only suggest that you track down older versions of your drivers (I would start from 4.12) and go from there until it doesn't work anymore. If this is the case (that older drivers work and newer ones don't), then we would have grounds to notifiy ATi of the problem, and hopfully it can be fixed.

I know that Uplink don't use the lastest version of GLUT, perhaps it's also true of Darwinia?

Perhaps the lastest version of GLUT (glut32.dll) would help: http://www.xmission.com/~nate/glut.html

question:
If I want remove COMPLETELY darwinia, the simple procedure from control panel is sufficient?

I think that my problem is on installation... and no in ati drivers. In my precedent installation darwinia work in excellent way..

Any suggest?

My specs are:
amd semperon 64-bit 3000+ (1.8GHz)
1Gig DDR RAM
160GB Hard Drive
128 Radeon 9200 AGP Graphics

Installed the patch but doesnt make a single bit of difference, please help, i really wanna play the game
