Floating orbs in container

Postby Slayer » Fri Aug 27, 2004 8:30 pm

When there is a large collection of 'debris' from destroyed units in one area, for example when using Squad/Engineer exploit, sometimes a strange cube-type shape appears.

I believe one of these cubes is a wrongly-drawn piece of debris, but I have never seen one collected. They have collision detection on, and can be pushed around by Darwinia Men if they are at ground level.

I've also wondered what they are. It seems that they are created by a darwinian, when it makes contact with the debric, encapsulates it into the box, and it flies.

Don't know exactly what they are, though.

Just a guess, but it might be to stop the debris from decaying... so then it stays there and can be picked up... *shrug*

No, because once they are boxed they immediately start floating and cannot be picked up. Bloody darwinians making the engy's life hard :p

I've also noticed them. From what I can tell, they appear to be some kind of funeral lantern that the Darwinians hold if they run into a spirit (possibly any kind, or maybe just of allies). I'm not sure if it serves any function, but it begins to float off at the same time as the spirit that the Darwinian is 'mourning' if it's not interrupted. It doesn't seem to interrupt the DGs' in any way, as they still follow an officer's commands as normal, leaving the 'lantern' to float up. So I reckon it's just a little graphical touch :)

I'd say the same thing, if I didn't think that the idea of that is stupid. Sice I do, I'll say that Chris had too much time on his hands.

I'd guess it's something like a "Injured, need help" sign, which will be implemented later on or something. At least that would be pretty cool, might just be a glitch though ;)

That is WAY too organised to be a glitch.

I also wonder about these little thingies. I've never seen more than one of them in a cluster of souls... Anyone ever see multiple ones flying up at the same time in the same area?

They seem to serve no purpose at this point, so let's all beg Chris to tell us what they are.

They're darwinian funerals, or something. They're triggered when darwinians run into spirits.
