Radar Transmitting to Offline Radar ...

Postby film11 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 7:16 pm

Two problems here. One:
As seen in the screenshot below, the furthest radar has an active control tower, while the near one does not, yet I am still able to connect, send squads across etc.
Second:
The near radar is not facing the far one, yet they can still connect, despite being told by our helper friend that they must be facing each other.

As far as I can see, all radar towers shown are active. Also, I don't think the radar dishes need to be pointing exactly at each other, I assume our helper friend in D meant that the radar just cannot be facing away. I assume each radar has ~180 degree scope, thus if a radar is pointed <90 degrees away from transmitting radar, it will still be able to accept new transfers.

I wonder, could this kind of thing be used as a relay system? ie, moving units into the first radar, and they automatically get beamed from the second to a third (assuming a radar can connect to a third when it is already recieving from another radar).

Well no. When you have objects under your control the lights are yellow, and the control towers beam of light is yellow and you can obviously see that that is not true in the near radar OR control tower. Also, I'm pretty sure that they have to be head on facing each other. Oh well we will see when the time comes.

Well, I've just had a fiddle. I think the red lines above the control towers simply mean they are not under your control, not that they are offline. Also, when playing, I tried transmitting to one that was literally pointing away, to no avail. Upon transmitting to another, that was pointing slightly to me (like yours, same reciever, but the transmitter is the one to the left in mine) I made a successful connection. I'm pretty sure what I said before was reasonably accurate, but of course, I've only really been getting into the game itself for the past few hours so I may be horribly mistaken :).

Side note: When transmitting your units, you can actually see the units themselves being transported in the beams of white light...cool, eh?

I can confirm that, both the spirits in the beam and multiple connections (i'll try get som pics up)
Experiment for yourself: align the radar on island 1 with the one on mine island (island 3)
then do the same with the closest one on refinery island (island 2)

the pic: http://img62.exs.cx/img62/9397/3wayradarnspirits.th.jpg

edit: You can align the last radar tower to the one on island 3 as well
though it seems that the beams are one-way ( I had 2 beams going to the tower on island 3, and an officer telling some darwinians to get on that beam back, but they refused)
But when I realigned one to go the other way, they went, all of them

edit2: Towers perfectly aligned towards eachother are two-way connections.
There is but one way to relay, leave an officer close to a part-way-tower ordering everyone to go in. The darwinians will then continue their travels in the beams direction as soon as they have stopped for some fresh air and a quick walk (circle outside).
Is this a signature?
