A see-through bug regarding the red worms

Postby TripH » Fri Aug 27, 2004 3:47 pm

Wohoo, first one to report a Class C bug ;) At least I think it is one, maybe you're supposed to be able to see through the ground?

As you can see, these red worm-like things are visible all the time, you can perfectly see it moving from any camera position.

Also, there are these spider-like creatures further along the map that also see through the level (you have to get closer to these though since they're not that big). The only creatures that don't stick through the ground (from what I can tell) are the darwinians and the flat red arrow worms that run along the ground.

Essentially, anything with the pixellized effect is visible through the terrain, or even other units, such as Darwinians. Looks like the effect is maybe processed after everything else, causing it to be placed on top of the buffer (From my weak understanding of OpenGL).

Just to let you know - I've never actually had this problem myself. All units appear when I have direct LOS, and disappear once there are obstacles in the way.

it's not a bug but a feature?

Hmm, might be something else then...

What resolution are you guys running? Graphical settings?

I got the same thing btw :)

I have x-ray vision for everything but the flat red worms and darwinians

engineers, squads, spiders and big worms are visible through the terrain

(I've got an nVidia card, default graphics settings)
Is this a signature?

After messsing with the preferences.txt, I've realised that this is caused by the RenderPixelShader argument. So if it annoys you, simply set that to 0, although you'd then lose the leet pixelly effect on everything.

I expect it still isn't supposed to do it even with that option turned on, so it probably still classifies as a bug. I'm experienceing the same thing, my prefs file and system is as follows:

---SysInfo FIle---

SysInfoGenVersion: 1
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz
Num Processors: 1
Country: United States
Language: English
Num sound devices: 2

Like LLama said, it's a Pixel Shader problem,, turn them off to stop it, but you lose the effect

I've also noticed that moving carts appear through the terrain as a glowing blob, and that the "Refined: 00" (or whatever the number is at the time) and glowing purple pulses of light that go along paths from officers show through the hills.
