Thoughts of the game (sofar)

I tried the game at my friends computer about year ago and I wasn't very impressed. All that praise about how fresh and original the game was, it just feeled like modernized cannon fodder with appealing graphics.

Then, I spotted the game on discount shelf and decided that "what the hell, why not try it again".

So, I installed and played it. The two first levels honestly didn't impress me much, despite the wonderful atmosphere made by sound and visuals. But I kept my decision and kept playing, the praises cannot be for nothing right?
The game started to be much more interesting and appealing by every level. I noticed how symphatic those darwinians indeed are. Using the commander to direct darwinians was like the good shephard guiding his lambs (im not religious person, sorry if that bothers). I really did my best to save as many darwinians as I could. I usually don't care much about weaker in games since in games they usually don't have much soul to care about.

However, to make any point in this thread, I have to bitch about some things. Im currently playing in the second last level and it's really getting to become an effort. Nothing much has changed from previous levels, it's only getting harder and there's more to do. I really loathe repeat in games and that is personally the biggest game killer.

But overall, as a game, darwinia doesn't offer that kind of amazing mind blowing experience that you could expect from all the praise. I really care about indie game developers and Im glad that I supported introversion, but when something doesn't work it doesn't work.
But I have to note that my apetite with games has been quite low lately. Not much games worth playing today or not interested anyway.

ps. I also have defcon. Nice game, althought I always get anal-punished in it.
