Darwinia testing on Steam

Postby John » Fri Apr 20, 2007 12:31 pm

We're now ready to begin testing the Darwinia Steam Update. This brings all the graphical enhancements that we've been working on recently from the Darwinia Vista project to Steam Users. Before we can make the update generally available, however, we'd like you guys to test it.

  • In order to test, you will need to have already purchased a copy of Darwinia on Steam.
  • Then, make sure that Steam is not running by right clicking on the steam system tray icon and selecting Exit.
  • Now restart Steam with some special command-line arguments. I do this with Start | Run |

    Code: Select all

    "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -beta darwinia0228

Please let me know how it goes for you by responding to this thread.

Many thanks!

explosions from grenades look great and reflections of squads and radar dishes in the water look cool too.
no issues for me so far and its a great excuse to play the game thru again
my other excuse is a new video card :)

good work.

Does this mean that the update will be steam-only and we retail-buyers are lost?

Oh so THIS is why it took so long to get the patch out - it works on XP and DX9!
Sorry IV for losing faith - looking forward to the new version and some more levels... the last game that made me feel emotional attachment to the characters was System Shock eight years ago when I first played it, Darwinia's second in the list :)
"Look at you hacker
a petty creature of meat and bone
hunting and sweating as you run through my corridors...
How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?"
SHODAN, System Shock
best game ever out of Darwinia :)

The game runs great for me. At first I didn't see the bullets from the armour, but I reinstalled and they appeared. Sometimes, though, rockets don't generate any explosion. I think it happens when they hit something before they reach the end of their path. The splash damage is also missing, so it isn't just a graphical issue.

Any word on when we can expect the additional levels, etc.?

It's sure taking a while to get the patch out.
