I prefer the gesture system. The game originally shipped with only the gesture system, and I have gotten used to it. This is why I was confused about the use of [F3] vs [F9] for accessing the mod editor -- I almost never use the icon system, and have still never used the shortcuts. I like gestures, damnit.

I got frustrated with the gesture system, which slowed me down in the heat of battle. I switched to icons, and ultimately to just using the F keys. This way I can quickly create a bunch of squads ready with Airstrikes, spread them out, and by selecting them using the regular number keys 1 through 4 (or 5) blast the hell out of an SD.
