UPDATE: Darwinia on the BIGGEST screen you can ...

Postby StuntRaceFX » Tue Mar 14, 2006 10:38 am

.... imagine. Consider what it would be like to play it on this setup:

http://www.plastk.net/

Pretty, pretty, pretty good ... don't you think? I reckon these research students wouldn't have a problem with getting the Linux version of the game to run on that monster.

If you (and especially some of the Introvesion team) would like to know more about this, the official website of this crazy great research project is:

http://infovis.cs.vt.edu/gigapixel/

Makes me wonder if Defcon will be as scaleable to uber high resolution setups. In fact imagine playing it or Darwina via a 4K res DLP projector in a cinema. Man, that would be something.

When I studied at Pomona College in southern California, the guys from Harvey Mudd (the engineering school on the campus, where the ratio of men to women was a fairly close approximation of pi) rigged up a very expensive sound and projector system and played Super Mario Brothers on the side of a five story building. Not quite IMAX, but fun, none the less.

Damn that's cool :D

And on a slight side note, I'm a projectionist at a cinema with a digital projector. That's Cineworld Wandsworth, in south London. Hmmm... I see a nice little video input on the front of the box ;)

Unfortunately I don't know if it would be possible to sync the sound... I think the coolest thing about playing games in the cinema would be the huge 6-speaker surround system with 2 subs :P :P

*drools*

Take a digi camera too. Show us how you set it up, take some pics of it in action. Maybe record a teeny 20-30 video ?? My digi camera does this but without sound, and low res (old camera) but it'll serve its purpose :) Really, DO IT !!

I really think ALL of those small flat-panel monitors would cost WAY more than just one large one.

Not to mention the equipment and software required to run them...

It's a cool experiment, but as far as First-Person-Shooters go, all of those blind spots would suck.

All-in-all a big-screen LCD tv with an adapter to run it off a computer would be more feasable. Plus you could watch tv on it. :)

As far as the theater thing goes: Hells yeah! Do it.

Do it.

That would be really cool to do that... Try out the Dell Renegade XPS 600's new screen, or Alienware's quad displays/giant hybrid TV.

(Dell recently bought Alienware so dell now owns them, but alienware hasn't changed a bit)
