I'm waiting for real Christmas, thanks. It just doesn't feel the same to set your clock ahead.

My point exactly. Though I would have you note that Chirstmas does not have the same significance for the DGs as it does for the rest of you. You see, one Christmas, Dr. S returned to the office after much drinking. He started playing with the code, but accidently left off a semi-colon in a very important block. This caused the rendering engine to barf, and the atmosphere was filled with pseudo-souls that fell to the ground, as in Reciever. The pseudo-souls covered the ground, looking much like snow. The Darwinians saw this as a bad omen -- a sign that the Soul Repository had broken, and was no longer processing souls. All of the then living Darwinians felt great tribulation at their impending doom. Among the Darwinians that survive from that day, the red hat with the white tassle is an important symbol -- the red represents the color of a real soul, and dominates the hat. It is an image of life. However, the white tassle represents the fake souls, and can be seen as an image of death -- not just death with reincarnation, but permanent death.

Interestingly enough, Dr. S fixed the code, and nothing really bad every happened, but this -- not the Soul Destroyers -- was the first taste of ever lasting death that the Darwinians ever had. It was a very important formative experience in the history of Darwinia.

I'm an archaeologist... in the US, this means that my degree is in anthropology, with a focus in archaeology (and, for my own sake, a minor in mathematics/statistics). I spend a fair amount of time studying folklore, which I find to be facinating, but have avoided philosophy like the plauge. All philosophy seems to lead to solipsism, which makes my feet hurt.

Solipism is actually a common misspelling of solipsism - which I only completely disbelieve because if all the people around me were automatons of my own creation, you'd all be female, and be giving me free beer and b.. er, backrubs much more often.

Yes, I have seen larger quote pyramids, though I happen to think that this one is doing quite well, although you did kind of cheat by double posting and quoting yourself.

...and i thort i was into Darwinia too much lol... well tought out though, ever considered doing a philosophy and mythology Alevel/degree ^_^

I'm an archaeologist... in the US, this means that my degree is in anthropology, with a focus in archaeology (and, for my own sake, a minor in mathematics/statistics). I spend a fair amount of time studying folklore, which I find to be facinating, but have avoided philosophy like the plauge. All philosophy seems to lead to solipism, which makes my feet hurt.

Solipism is actually a common misspelling of solipsism - which I only completely disbelieve because if all the people around me were automatons of my own creation, you'd all be female, and be giving me free beer and b.. er, backrubs much more often.

Archeology - thas awesome [xander], i have always wanted to study antropology...there is so much to discover about the way people think. It funny really as despite the eons of time that have passed - really we are jsut as basic as we have ever been.

Philosophy all leads to solipism, its funy cos its true; i know what you mean. heh - theres a killer essay "Relate and discus the ideals of solipism with the ideals in a self sustaining auntonmusly evolving but engineered envrinment [Darwinia]"

...did you ever see so many quotes?!!!!1!1!1111oneoneeleven

Yes, I have seen larger quote pyramids, though I happen to think that this one is doing quite well, although you did kind of cheat by double posting and quoting yourself.

xander

you only quoted that to make the quote pyramid larger!

You do realise that with each quote layer you add you're increasing the server load every time the topic is displayed? You also do realise that this will crash browsers on older computers?

Nested quotes are cool in the same way that burning ants with a magnifying glass is cool...
