Darwinia 2..errr..no...Expansion pack...ofcourse!
When you release a game like Darwinia, forget a sequel, the next step is to release an expansion pack. Its relatively easy to produce,it can be developed quickly and it's cheap.
So bets as to how long it'll before we see "Virrii Vengeance"
4 months I reckon.

Introversion may not be EA but they do need to make money, the only way you make money in this industry is to release games.
An expansion pack is a game.
I dont understand what you think an expansion pack would be if not a way of increasing funds within the company and so enable them to make more games.

By your logic, Darwinia would never have been produced, and we would all be playing IV made expansions to Uplink. From what I have seen of IV, their business model is something like:
1) Produce something nifty.
2a) Make enough money to buy food / shelter / beer for a while.
2b) Let the modding community have fun.
3) Start work on <the next game>, while living off of <the last game>
4) goto 1

By your logic Xander,we wouldn't have expansion packs....err...wait up....thats kinda stupid.
What the hell is so wrong with expansion packs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wake up people, expansion packs are cool, think about it an extra dose of your favourite game within a few months of the originals release.
Fantastic.

IV are not into making expansions. They work on new games, something different. They aren't EA, they do not milk a market to death. For that they are good, innovative.

Introversion are 4 people. 4. That means they tend to concentrate on one thing at a time. They are not some monolithic company able to concentrate on multiple game developmental stages.
Uplink help: Read the FAQ
Fact: IV made Uplink
Fact: IV made no expansion packs for Uplink
Fact: The Uplink modding community made many expansions
Fact: I can count the employees of IV with my fingers
Fact: The guys at IV like shelter, food, and beer
Fact: The guys at IV like to have fun (ok, this may be a bit of an assumption, but reading the forums implies that it is true ^_^)
Fact: IV prides itself on being original
Here are my conclusions based on the above facts:
The guys at IV are perfectly happy to make new games, rather than expansion packs. Expansion packs lack the originality and coding challenges of creating a new game. Also, I do not think that IV are hurting for money, as they are still eating, drinking, and paying the rent. As modding and coding both take a great deal of time, and there are not that many people working for IV, I think that they would rather begin work on <the next game>. Meanwhile, the modding community will be quite happy.
While you are free to give IV business advice, you are basing your model on a large corporation that wants nothing more than profits. From my experience on these boards, I do not think that IV is like that. They are a part of the community, and they are trying to create something for that community.

4 people.count em 4.
As I understand 2 coders and 2 designers.maybe a marketing bod.I dunno,I dont care.Its a small company,we agree.
Why wouldn't they want to concentrate on an expansion pack for a few months? you dont need to be a "monolithic" company to do this just a company that loves what they have just produced enough to want to do more of the same.
