The fix for most people is rather simple, I've outlined it in this topic:
http://forums.introversion.co.uk/darwin ... =4805#4805
That will fix the error about: `Failed to get CPU information (2)`
If you get `Couldn't open registry value`, then I think you might be in some form of user account that can't access the registry.
As for any other errors, please detail them here.

I tried an amended version of your 1st fix, NeoThermic, for my PentiumIV. It was accepted and added to my reg but no change. I still get Failed to get CPU information (2). Is there a specific version for Windows ME that might help?
Edit: My blackbox readout is here if it helps. I pray it does!
Edit 2: I tried the manual regedit fix as outlined by RoystonD12 in the same topic (here) and every combination and entries I could find, manipulate and think of but again !

You'll have to paste the posts here as long as they only contain info about the sysinfo tool, both are in protected fourms and I didn't make the beta

Sorry bout that! I didnt think to check the list and presumed anyone that would spend the time to put up a fix would have been part of the beta! Guess you're just a helpful guy!
Blackbox post:
I wrote:I've got a Pentium IV.
My error is Failed to get CPU information (2)
And my Blackbox differs:
retAddress = 00401048
retAddress = 004011B1
retAddress = 00401104
retAddress = 0040D4B3
retAddress = BFF848F7
retAddress = 0065881A
For the love of god (or bunnies, everybody loves bunnies!) someone help! I wanna download the beta!!!!!
RoystonD12's fix:
RoystonD12 wrote:There is now a fix for this, sort of. You can manually edit the registry and provide the data that most processors provide automatically.
using regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> HARDWARE -> DESCRIPTION -> System -> CentralProcessor -> 0
and create a new string value called 'ProcessorNameString' and give a value of "Pentium 3" or whatever yours is. now you can run sysinfo just fine.
This string may or may not be wiped when you reboot your ocmputer, so be warned.
Also, if chris or another mod could sticky this so that those of us with incompatible processors could benefit, that'd be nice.
I've tried your's and RoystonD12's fixes, both to no avail.
Your fix:
SysInfoGen error is as before: Failed to get CPU information (2)
RoystonD12's fix:
SysInfoGen error is: Couldn't open registry value.
From this I'd say the 2nd attempt was closer to the mark but what value does the program want for my Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.50GHz on WinME?
Thanks for the help NeoThermic!

Ok Mad_Big_Sausage, what I want you to do is open regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0
click on the folder icon for the '0', and select 'Export'
You get a box to save a reg file, enter in any name. Then find that file, and open it in notepad, and paste what it contains in here.
I've a feeling that you're missing a few keys, of which seeing this might help.

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\Description\System\CentralProcessor\0]
"VendorIdentifier"="GenuineIntel"
"Identifier"="Pentium(r) III processor"
"Update Status"=dword:00000002
Add this to the end of that, and save it, then merge it with the registery
Code: Select all
"ProcessorNameString"="Intel Pentium III"
That should work.

HOLD PRESS. I just got it working for Darksun, so I provide my fix here.
Either use the registery key below:
Or do it manually:
Hope that helps. That should fix the `Couldn't open registry value` error.

Either use the registery key below:
Code: Select all
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX]
"InstalledVersion"=hex:00,00,00,09,00,00,00,00
Or do it manually:

[15:02:47] <NeoThermic> right click, add new hex value
[15:02:56] <NeoThermic> bah
[15:02:58] <NeoThermic> binary value
[15:03:00] <NeoThermic> rather than hex
[15:03:02] <NeoThermic> heh
[15:03:27] <Darksun> And put in hex:00,00,00,09,00,00,00,00?
[15:03:39] <NeoThermic> no
[15:03:48] <NeoThermic> you have to add some weird suff
[15:04:08] <NeoThermic> which doesn't want to paste here!
[15:04:41] <NeoThermic> you need to type in 00 00 00 09 00 00 00 00
[15:04:45] <NeoThermic> then press enter
[15:04:50] <Darksun> Did that
[15:04:56] <NeoThermic> ok, so two rows?
[15:05:02] <Darksun> Yes
[15:05:07] <Darksun> 0000 and 0008
[15:05:13] <Darksun> WHOO!
[15:05:13] <Darksun> WORKY!
Hope that helps. That should fix the `Couldn't open registry value` error.
