OOOOOOOHHHH, you meant the actual product we're supposed to test. Well, first you have to get invited into the beta test (meaning none of us actually have an invitation yet) and if you are rather lucky and do get invited you then get the game sent to you/you download it so you could debug it and such. It isn't actually in a real public testing stage yet.
Other games have a much bigger development team and game scope. This a fairly low key team of people and the game isn't on par with games like C&C: Generals of AoM... Therefore it won't need so much testing, or testers.
Remember, the game reported so far is barely 1MB in total size, including graphics. Compare that to Generals' 1.7 GB...

Yes, but this isn't like other games.
I was a bit suprised to see no 'personal statement' kind of bit in the submission. How're they meant to know how stunningly creative and intelligent we all are beyond our PC specs?

I'd love to be a beta tester for Darwinia, I love RTS games, so when I heard that Introversion's second game was gonna be an RTS, I was really glad. Introversion have a really good reputation for creating games that focus on the gameplay rather than the asthetics and this was shown in Uplink, I still play that now, so Darwinia should do better than some of the higher budget games that have been too unbalanced towards one side in the recent past.
At least this beta is open to the UK, not like The Matrix Online beta tests. Although Introversion is UK based, so I'd expect it to have beta testing in the UK
