A plea to the good folks of Introversion: We can wait.

Anything and everything

Should Introversion take more time to release a more complete game?

Yes. I would rather wait longer to get a game that didn't need patching so much

No. I would rather have the game sooner and patch as and put up with more bugs and less gameplay options.

How about a compromise...no multiplayer in the initial release, but no glaring bugs either...wait...that's what they're doing already...end of discussion!

Well I don't care when it comes out aslong as 99.9999% of the bugs are fixed, mp doesn't have to come with the game. Be patient and wait. It can cause a big build up in the community like Nakatomai did for Uplink.

Hm hm hm. I would like to see the bugs ironed out first, however, I would also like to see the game ASAP, which means I would be happy to wait for an MP patch. I would probably suck at it anyway so I don't really mind :) .

Heh heh.. I feel the pain. Years ago, I used to think I was fantastic at Quake etc, till I tried playing against real people and had my behind handed to me in a hat :P It's a shame really - I almost never play MP games now, because I just expect to lose, whereas if I practice, I might not, so much..

Having multiplayer after the release would be probably extend the life of the game considerably. But having it too long after the release would mean that most people would have lost interest in it. Perhaps. Something to consider.

I'll wait so that the major bugs and the majority of minor ones are sorted, so hopefully you shant repeat what THQ did with Fire Warrior, release it and a day later release a huge mother of a patch. Multiplayer can wait as well. Eidos did it with Deus Ex and it came off quite well.

Thats because Deus Ex had an addictive and replayable storyline (3 alternate endings). Then a level editor was released for it I think. MP was just a bonus. Lets hope Darwinia has the same amount of replay value ;)

If memory serves, though, MP was terrible in Deus Ex.. the style of play just wasn't suited to Deathmatch. Off-topic, admittedly :)

DXMP was fairly crappy. The netcode sucked, and there was so many missed opertunities in gameplay. The only half decent server is Jim Bowen's, since it is modded to include some interesting weapons.

Yeah DXMP isn't the greatest, but sometimes fun.

Even more fun when you play the Party mod. Its just a like a chat room, in a night club, but the first player on gets to run to the control room and lock themselves in with all the weapons. Its funny.

Most deffinatly, its pretty much just unreal ed, but with deus ex stuff.

I dunno about the rest of you, but I'd have trouble trusting anyone here on the boards.
Not that I have anything against any of you, but I have trouble trusting everyone on the Internet.

I'm so humble...

Postby Iwudacus » Wed Jun 23, 2004 8:35 am

Im my humble opinion with the whole MP patch thing, it might not be a good idea to have to wait for it. I completeyl agree that it might make the longevity of the game increase, but it also might not. As was mentioned, if it's released too long after, interest might die and it would be a flop.

I dunno about you guys, but these days, games just get a bit repetitive very soon. Admittedly Uplink kept me nailed for months, so IV has what it takes to keep even me interested, but I try not to bargain on things like this too much. The last time I expected serious diversity and long-lasting interest in a game was Morrowind. I honestly stopped playing after about a week, cause I was kinda expecting Daggerfall with better graphics. I know, I know. It was my own stupidity, and that's why I try to avoid that mistake now.

FINALLY back to the topic at hand. MP is usually a good way to get the hang of a new and unfarmiliar game and check out the options the gameplay offers. So unless there's gonna be some sorta "sandbox" or practice mode, I shout that MP shouldn't be a patch later on.

Oh yes. Ra! Ra!

I find most solo games with MP capability repetive. Forget storyline or environment, it's kill this guy and try not to get killed by that guy. Don't get me wrong I think that can be great fun and there are definately some online games I'd like to give a whirl, but lately it seems that MP capability is the biggest draw whether or not the game's any good. For my money MP can wait.
