Will the final version need a 2nd copy just to host a dedicated server ?

Unless Introversion implement the LAN changes or Dedwinia works with a demo key.

if you guys ever get this fully running put a link up for a code download. I'll run one any day using this. I have a full windows dedi server myself.

It should be perfectly fine to use the same authkey to host a Dedwinia server and to play the game, as long as you don't host. The way I see it, an authentication key entitles you to a) play the game and b) host games and c) both at the same time, and I see nothing wrong with doing a) and b) with different software :)

(That's my interpretation. The keys are from IV and are verified by communicating with the metaserver; they absolutely have a right and the technical means (if server and game run on different public IPs) to disagree. But it worked that way for Defcon.)

So no multiple hostings on the same key going on? Btw, any technical details available, i.e. mostly what OS we're talking about?

Depends. There are multiple server instances running at the same time (worst case, up to five, but in practice never more than two active games and one in the lobby), but only one of them is visible. As soon as a game is started, servers may vanish from the list.

Linux built with GCC 3.4 and above, OS X Tiger and up, Windows 2000 and up.

Never knew that, always thought there only be one dediwinian server up at a time :o
Since when I see a dediwinian thats grayed out, theres never another one ready :/
Or has it being grayed out have nothing to do with its playing a game, just full/starting?

If it's greyed out, a game has already started. That doesn't always start a new server right away, as this would overload my poor server on high demand.

Ooh that's shiny indeed. Neothermic's new servers are great and I seem to be able to jump straight into a game, also thanks to the new demo version and steam discount methinks. *Jumps back into playing against newbies to add more wins to the ladder*

[SNIPPED Oct 26, 2008]

It appears to only be on one dedicated server that this is an issue for some reason, Happens to be a dedicated server for DEMO maps. So I've removed the original post being it's not the server software just on fluked server so far.

For those with access, a new build (svn829) is up, fixing the connection errors people with large pings are getting.

(I'll just post the updates here. Saves me work. I'll say something extra when there also is a Mac build; doing one requires that I snatch the Powerbook from my wife. That said, no Mac build this time, only Linux and Windows.)

How does one gain access? :P
Although there seems to be plenty Dedwinia servers already.

You try to make the impression that you'd be a useful tester :)
Plus, I'm afraid that at this time being a Multiwinia beta tester is a requirement, too.
