My real question was something along the lines of "how far do you estimate for the map editor's completion?" and "What still needs to be finished for it?" but these are answers likely under NDA, and nothing I can help with.

Frankly I feel the map editor would do better at helping introversion than a polished version of Darwinia, but then I'm only a fan who doesn't know the full situation so....

Yeah, well, even beta testers and probably IV themselves aren't quite sure of the answers. No one can give you much more than "when it's released it's released" :P

Just something I wanted to point out, currently, when you make custom maps, and it adds the entry into the selection menu, wouldn't the back button get in the way? And I'm assuming that when the editor is released, the map selection menu will be accommodated to allow a scroll bar, and the back button will either be moved, or the selection menu would just cut off before it got down to the back button.

It does get in the way visually, unfortunately. It's highlighted if you select a map behind it. However, if you don't click on it directly, it just loads the map.
As for the scroll bar, I've added a few custom maps, and I'm not sure if I can see the whole list, so it probably would be necessary, yes. Either that, or another way to filter the maps you want.

Ya, for now, I just switch out the text files for maps I'm not using at the moment. There's room in every category for at least two or three new entries.

Good stuff - however, you said you had it ready in 2008. It's now 2010.

Is there a reason that you are bumping old threads?

Actually, I think he raises a valid point here- and the bumping just reinforces it somewhat, in context.

It would be nice, though, if he wasn't just bumping old threads at random.

It's still a pretty valid question, if you don't know what's been taking precedence for the last 12 months.

Nonetheless, I'd say simple inquiry threads should be born and finally die long before we can legitimately get impatient about an official map editor release...

Like this? I don't remember precisely, but something tells me Icepick is either working on something completely different now or he isn't with introversion staff anymore...

But anyway, it would be the second biggest disappointment if the map editor didn't come out. (The biggest, of course, being Darwinia's modding stuff which I know probably won't happen)

When six months have passed without anyone asking that question.

I have just set myself a reminder to think about bumping this thread once every 5 months and 29 days.

You'll slip up! You'll have to reach February eventually and then, THEN, about half a century from now, we WILL have the map editor!

I doubt it will take that long---it only took five years for me to slip up on xyzyxx's birthday. (Yes, I am quite certain I misspelled that, but I have been drinking heavily tonight, and don't care! Ha!)
