Friend can't ready?

Hi! I've been playing this game off and on with friends for about 5 years now, through college, moves, etc. It always worked, but now two of my friends can't seem to ready up when they connect to servers I host, and I can't seem to join their games at all. I can join/host everyone else I play the game with except for these two people in particular.
What could this mean?
My ports should be open, but theirs might be closed - this has never been an issue with them before though!
We can play together in lots of other games though, I can host GMOD servers, Defcon servers, even Killing Floor servers (which all also require port forwarding!)
Any suggestions?
