Multiwinia crashes every 2nd or 3rd match...

Postby spookster » Sun Oct 11, 2009 4:58 pm

Multiwinia closes itself after some time with the "gathering system information" popup.
I've sended 2 error reports to IV but... i am impatient player and quite addicted to the game.

Everything you need to know:
Windows 7 Final (The game worked fine under Windows Vista)
Ati HD 3870 (Catalyst 9.8 had this error/ I updated to 9.9 problem still remains)
Intel Q6600 on a Gigabyte P35-DS3
Soundblaster X-Fi (Had some strange errors but no crashes in other games, most times sound just stops working... but no Problems in MW)
Steam Version of Multiwinia (I gifted my retail to a friend have not tried it with a retail)

I've uploaded my everything within the crash .zip file here (without my key of course :)).
Just search for ### to find the diffrent files you want to look at.
I guess this has to do with my gfx-driver but i am not sure...
Any ideas?

First, things to rule out:
1. Is it the Steam version - download the retail version (the demo) and use your Steam CD Key. If the problem still remains, it's not Steam's fault (obviously)
2. Try reverting to an older version of the video drivers, because you said so yourself that that might be the issue.

**I suck at this stuff and am only telling you to do obvious stuff. I do the same with ANYONE who has a problem and asks me, and I don't really know the answer. I guess what I'm trying to say is - I'm a noob at this, don't listen to me.

1. could be a problem with the steam overlay or whatever steam feature... i will try to play with the standalone and see if it makes any diffrence.
2. reverting back to an older gfx driver is not possible, because there is none for windows 7 :)

I am going to post the next one I get, I deleted the standalone, because it has the same problems my steam version has.
But it looked quite similar to the first one... as far as I can tell.

Hmm, random observation: there's always a sound filename on the stack, and the crash comes from within the kernel. Can you try disabling sound completely or switching sound drivers and see if that helps?

Also, just FYI for the future, you can post logs here directly, using [code] tags, or, if you think that they are too long, post them to http://pastebin.org/ and provide a link. That saves us from having to download a zip file and extract it.

I used my onboard soundcard, not my x-fi today and well... after 3 matches game closed itself prompting me to the "gathering system information" screen.

I have more or less the same problem, and in my case i found out its because the game starts sucking up insane amounts of memory. It usually crawls to a halt when it reaches 1.8gb and then crashes. You should check the memory usage when you're playing and see if its as high as mine.
I got no idea why it sucks up so much memory :(

Did you ever fix your problem? If so, could you explain how? I suspect this user is long gone, but it could still help other users who might have the same issue.
