Multiwinia crashing on auto-update

Postby Kuth » Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:19 pm

It didn't have this problem before, but ever since I switched to another Vista profile (certain problems making this necissary), Multiwinia has been crashing at the auto-update every time I've tried to run it.

I'm running Windows Vista, 32 bit. Graphics card is a GeForce 8300 GS. Ram is 3070mb.

I've tried uninstalling, then reinstalling the program in my new desktop profile but I'm still getting this result.

This is autopatch_debug:

Code: Select all

Autopatch version 003 2008-07-13 vista
Config{ dl = "C:\Users\Operations\AppData\Local\Introversion\Multiwinia\update",
        manifest = "",
        sizeOnly = No,
        respawn = No,
        launch = Yes,
        mode = "upgrade",
        doNothing = No,
        runCopier = Yes,
        revert = No }
APP_DIR: C:\Program Files\Multiwinia
authkey file in user profile? Yes
authkey file app dir? No
version file exists? Yes
Appdir writable? No
Running Vista? Yes
Elevated? No
RUNNING DOWNLOAD... DownloadItem{
   valid  = Yes,
   url    = "update.introversion.co.uk/autopatch/manifest.php?version=retail.iv.1.0.0&key=[removed]&game=Multiwinia&mode=upgrade",
   write  = No,
   fpath  = "",
   resume = Yes,
}

Code: Select all

write  = No
That probably has something to do with it.

That's as far as I can go. Sorry. :P

First file to download is the manifest file to know which files to download, so no need to write it to disk, thus the "write = No" (I guess),

You could try deleting the folder "update" from "C:\Users\Operations\AppData\Local\Introversion\Multiwinia\update" but I doubt it would solve it...

Perhaps try uninstalling the game (save your authkey somewhere), totally delete "C:\Program Files\Multiwinia", and then reinstall.

Or install somewhere else then in "C:\Program Files\", something like "C:\games\"

Or try to launch the auto-update as Administrator (if it's not already the case)

Appdir writable? No
Running Vista? Yes
Elevated? No

Try running the auto-update with administrator privileges.

Yeah that's what fixed the problem...

...which is odd, because this account is supposed to have administrative privileges. I didn't think I'd need to 'run as administrator' on an administrative profile, but I guess that's the case?

AFAIK (which isn't very far), programs aren't run as administrator by default. I could be talking out of my - ... I've not actually got Vista.
